Hello, this is my first time posting! I am addicted to reading through these forums! I wanted to post my heart-leaf philodendron (apologies for the lousy cell-phone photo):

Thumb of 2015-02-26/ednaricketts/5cebf1

I am currently experimenting with cuttings from this plant growing them up the wall and lattices, rather than cascading down a hanger, to see if it results in larger leaves. I've read that because of their DNA, they first go through the skototropism process, growing toward darkness to reach a tree, and then changing to grow toward light and the jungle ceiling. Since as a houseplant they can never mature fully, I hope that scaling them upwards, and allowing their roots to latch on to something, that their leaves with grow larger and they will naturally grow in that direction. Anyone have experience with philos growing up rather than down and/or out?

Also, Lin, do you feed your pothos growing in water? I have one in a beautiful old vermouth bottle that was started a year ago. But it has not grown in length, and only sprouted one new leaf since. It has long healthy roots, and a couple inches of stones to wrap around the bottom of the bottle, but it's not progressing much, and turns lighter and lighter each month!
My hands are either covered in soil, or covered in flour. Whether it's plants or yeasted bread, I will grow something beautiful from the simplest of things.

Laura, sorry for not saying 'Hi!' sooner! When I first saw it, I didn't have time to reply that day, then forgot about this discussion for a while. Your plant is lovely, with such nice, large leaves!

My trellised plant (same species as yours) has been going up for a while. I had to disturb it about 3 yrs ago to give it its' own pot. It had been growing with a Dracaena tree for about 12 yrs, but I was having to trim it too often the last few yrs, it really wanted to take off. But that's when mine started making larger leaves, when it was "on" the trunk of the tree, with its' roots attached.

So far, after about 3 yrs on the trellis, it hasn't made leaves any bigger than it did on the tree, but I've had to trim those older parts off again, to keep it small enough to bring inside for winter. If unable to stop disturbing/trimming my plant, it doesn't seem like I'll see leaves any bigger.

If able to let them grab the wall & keep going, it might be possible...!

Have you gotten started with a trellis for some of yours yet?

The leaf shine did wear off of my 'Panda' plant. I took the red noses off, but left most of the eyes on until they remove themselves. I know it's tacky, but I can't help it, I think they're cute.

When you cut back a philodendron, you usually plant the tops. especially those that get larger as they grow up. You'll be starting with a more mature growth than starting over again from the bottom thinner stems. Plant the tops at the base of a new moss pole and let them grow from there.

I potted Phil bipinnatifidum (which breaks really easily, not very bendy,) together with Monstera obliqua. Also some sprigs of Pothos & Scindapsus in there somewhere. Then added some pieces of Philo 'Brazil.'

LOL, Tiffany. I was just sitting in my den looking at my small pots of the 1st two that you mentioned and thought about combining them in a hanging basket. I sat wondering what else I would add to balance it out and decided to check in and saw your post. I'll look around tomorrow or Monday for other ideas. Philo Brazil does look like the perfect partner. nodding

Love that combo, Cinta!

I took some pics of what's going on with my Philos...

'Black Cardinal' is making tons of giant aerial roots.

This combo pot is taking off well. It has P. bipennifolium, Monstera obliqua & others... first showed 11/20/14, newly repotted pics are on 5/2 above.
Thumb of 2015-07-20/purpleinopp/37a940

This combo pot is from my original post. It has P. erubescens both plain species & 'Pink Princess cultivar,' P. 'Brazil,' Scindapsus. The Brazil has one vine that's lost its' variegation, making solid lime colored leaves.
Thumb of 2015-07-20/purpleinopp/fb90e2

New 'Pink Princess' leaves are small, but pretty.
Thumb of 2015-07-20/purpleinopp/76d9c7

'Micans' is doing great, repotted a few weeks ago:

Exuberant aerial roots but tiny, juvenile foliage coming in on some of the P. bipennifolium vines.

I realized there was hardly any "dirt" left in this combo pot & repotted it yesterday. It looks so different suddenly, liking it. Has anyone else had Brazil revert to a solid color?

Oh, and I cut the sunburned leaves off of this guy, which should also make it easier to install some kind of yet-to-be-determined support device. Trying to fully rationalize not repotting before I decide. I just did that last fall.

Tiffany, nice combo pot! Yes, I've had Philo Brasil revert to solid green, as well as Epipremnum (Pothos) too!

seaecho, nice Philo's you've got there in that combo container!

I don't have any combo pots, I seem to keep most of my plants segregated in their own containers. I've shared photos of my philodendron's before but here are a few more taken yesterday and today.

TYVM! And TY for the revert anecdotes. Nice plants! I love them! Your pink princess is much more pinky princess-y than mine!

I think the panduriforme might be bipennifolium, but it's always hard to tell with leaves that can change shape a bit from juvenile to mature.

Tiffany, I think you are correct about the one that was labeled panduriforme is actually the juvenile form of bipennifolium. I have my file folder marked (P. panduriforme or P. bipennifolium) and I think panduriforme is quite rare and not often seen in trade. I don't recall where I got my plant but I've had it a long time and almost lost it twice to winter freezes but managed to save a piece that survived. The leaves look identical to the juvenile foliage shown on the Exotic Rainforest page. I love that site and it's so sad that Steve Lucas is no longer with us, he was a very knowledgeable gentleman.

Which one are you wondering if it could be P. erubescens? The second line of photos, middle plant isn't P. erubescens, no blushing going on at all since I've had that one. I got the plant from toy747 and I see that she has a photo in the database for this entry that states it's also sold as domesticum: Spade Leaf Philodendron (Philodendron 'Fantasy') so I guess I will upload one of my pic's to that entry.

Yes, it's the middle pic in the 2nd row that I was wondering about. Not saying one way or the other, just wondering. No doubt Steve's contributions are stunning! Hope is resting in planty peace.

Rainforest site says the flower, leaves, petioles of P. erubescens can blush, but doesn't say that's a requirement for this species. "In the case of the species Philodendron erubescens, both the leaves, the petioles and the inflorescence (spathe) exhibit the ability to "blush"."
http://www.exoticrainforest.co...

I couldn't find any info about a patent for a Philodendron called fantasy. An image search for Philodendron fantasy is totally inconclusive, showing a bunch of diff plants. How is it supposed to be different from the species?
https://www.google.com/search?...

There are references out there to a Burle Marx Fantasy:

And an African Fantasy:
http://aroidiaresearch.org/aff...

Your plant looks a lot like the species pics here:

I would be hesitant to upload any mystery plant to a cultivar entry, vs. the species, and don't have the plant in person to observe, just the 1 pic. Maybe ask on the Aroid forum? I can find links to share, & look at the pic, but that's all I'm qualified to do. Sure is fun to discuss though, and absolutely beautiful to see, by any name. :+)

Tiffany, yeah I decided against placing photos at the db entry for P. domesticum 'Fantasy'. I contacted the lady I purchased my plant from and she said that my plant is the same as the photo shown in the database. She's always known it as P. domesticum and when she went to put it in her plant list, it came up Spade Leaf Philodendron, P. 'Fantasy' so that's where her photo ended up. I just left my pic's in the generic Philo entry because it's very confusing as to whether or not there truly is a Philodendron species domesticum. I've searched a few times for a sp. domesticum but it's all so confusing to a non scientific person like me.

No reference of sp. domesticum in the list at Kew: http://www.theplantlist.org/br...

Catalogue of Life shows 0 records found: http://www.catalogueoflife.org...

GRIN shows the name but it says: NO ACCESSIONS IN NPGS UNDER THIS NAME whatever that means: http://www.ars-grin.gov/cgi-bi...

I tracked down the reverting 'Brazil' vine and cut it off to get a good look at it. In the purple circle is a juncture where it looks like the lime leaves are a side branch from the main stem. In the red circle is what I think is the first, oldest plain lime color leaf. It's oddly-shaped. Funky!
