Are these plants kin to the Pony Tail Plant?

Do you have seeds right now, Ursula? If so, I will send you a SAE and try my hand at germinating/growing them. Like I need more plants! Whistling

Ken, the only thing they might have in common is a nice caudex, if one might look at young Ponytail palms.
The Adenium obesum came from Africa/Sub Sahara and belongs to the family of Apocynaceae, the Oleander family.
Ponytail Palms/ Beaucarnea recurvata are from the Asparagaceae family and they originated in Mexico. A total different thing.
Traveling around Thailand you see Adenium obesums everywhere in all sort of shapes and sizes. That should give you an idea of what climate they love.

Yes, I have tons of seeds right now!!! Ready to give away!

Nice show, Ursula. The yellow tabebuia has really been putting on a show. Here are the latest pics. Note in the first shot, my ponytail palm can be seen on the right. The Beaucarnea recurvata is now about 20 feet tall and shows no signs of slowing down.

Just beautiful color there, Jim. With our mild weather the last week, and more mild weather this coming week, I expect to see some color in our neighborhood soon.

Gorgeous, Jim. Isn't that the tree that was damaged by the wind last summer?

Doesn't look like the drastic pruning did it any harm! It's still even a pretty nice shape.

You're right, Elaine. It has grown rapidly from the stub that used to be that big limb. In another year, it may be back to normal. Here is a picture of that incident.

The very first crocus of the season in our front border. Look quickly, tomorrow it will surely be covered with the white stuff again, if the forecast is accurate!

Aww, I do recall how very thrilling the first crocus and snowdrops are. My Mum used to be just in raptures when they appeared.

I have a couple of 'heralds of spring' too. Caladium 'Scarlett O'Hara' making an unexpected appearance already, and my nice Amaryllis 'Bogota' at least a week ahead of it's sister. Looking just a bit the worse for wear as it had been knocked over while I was out yachting.

Pretty, Ursula! Assuming you summer it outside, do you have any major insect problems with it there? I gave up on them, though they thrive year round here, due to Giant White fly. There are so many pretty Hibiscus that grow here, but they're not so pretty when they're smothered with white stringy stuff. I would think that your winters would hamper them. Here, we don't get enough winter to kill them, so I assume they are a tropical insect.

Carol, for some reason the last few years I have not seen White Flies inside. I have now overwintered my large pot of small hot Peppers/Caribbean Reds for several years too without infestations. And I keep a Poinsettia in the greenhouse, which also stayed clean.
I check often, so far so good. And yes, it all goes back outside in Spring. Perhaps my daily waterings from the top down help? Or I am simply lucky.
