Yeah, trees suffer most being unprotected up there, but fingers crossed your roses remain safe...

Hilarious! because I am the unwashed cetacean?

I'm sorry Toni--that is the goat blowing constellation of suckage that I can relate to very well.
My lilacs were flat too and mostly bounced back except for the limbs that snapped off--but they really did a lot of damage to the other plants that they smashed.
We also have received our annual allotment of moisture from the sky all at once this spring and I have like four total cherries growing now as opposed to thousands, a leafless ginkgo trying to start over, many storm-pruned trees and shrubs that do not meet my specifications and displease me greatly i.e. leaving 10' clems in a big snarly pile, bizarre blooms and forms on so many things, etc.
At least we got some moisture though and aside from the drowned alpines and desert types, the rest of my plants are thrilled with that for a change.

I officially lost my Hotwings Maple (Tatar Maple (Acer tataricum Hot Wings®)) as it broke right at the base. I *may* have lost my Wate's Gold Pine as well (Virginia Pine (Pinus virginiana 'Wate's Golden')) as it was laying almost 100% flat & probably badly uprooted. I'll rebury it and hope for the best. The lilacs are going to be OK I believe.. they're very springy. But the silver maple has some major branch damage and will probably drain sap for most of the spring. Lost quite a few big branches. :(

Late spring snows suck.

Oh wow, Toni, I am so sorry!
You can try to root a piece of the maple from small branches. The Pine might be ok IF you can get those roots back into the ground, and brace the whole tree with real sturdy stakes. I've had trees blow out of the ground in storms and if they stayed wet until I replanted them, they survived.
We had rain yesterday but no tornadoes, even though we had a "TOR CON" of 6 or 7. Our main iris show is today and I was planning to select iris a few days early and store them inside, but ended up way too busy. Last night, wouldn't you know, we had strong winds and another rainstorm, so all the new blooms were damaged.
I entered 18 and ended up with 9 blue ribbons, 8 red, 1 white. The show was at our Botanical gardens, along with a rose show and a daylily sale and all kinds of special events for mothers. Thousands of people came. It was soooo crowded, but fun!

I love that rose/salvia/choisya photo, Sue. Gorgeous!

One of my Vespers is gone, darn it! It was in a redwood planter with my Sprekelias. A gopher climbed up the side, burrowed down into the planter, and ate everything inside.

These are the iris I entered. Not as fresh today, but still pretty.
Sue, I've never seen Vesper around here. Did you buy it online? It is such a warm color. Zuzu I'm sorry you lost yours.

Cindy, my Vespers came from The Uncommon Rose and Vintage Gardens, both of which are no longer in business. I feel fortunate that there were so many sources when my passion for roses was at its peak, and I feel sorry for people who want to collect the more obscure cultivars now that dozens of rose nurseries have closed. I see on HMF that Vesper is still being carried by Rogue Valley Roses and Greenmantle. I personally wouldn't trust Rogue Valley to send the right rose, but Greenmantle has always sent me healthy roses that are never mislabeled.

I usually focus on whatever's at eye level or below in my garden, but today I made a conscious effort to look up. I was amazed at how good the combination of Dortmund and Buff Beauty looks at the top of this arbor.

Way above my head, I also noticed a whole bouquet of Fairest Cape. I think this is one of the best roses I've bought in the last 10 years. It's a Kordes hybrid tea and it grows to 10-12 feet each year.

Maybe although I am trying not to get any more roses, getting rid of some this year. Although if I were to come across Eureka again I would definately buy it, mad that I forgot to cage it and a gopher got it.

Yesterday I went to remove Hot Cocoa, cut it down to the main canes and brought in the blooms. First thing Brad says was that he like the blooms and darn, I agreed, they sure looked pretty in a vase in the kitchen! So I replanted it in the back, hidden so I can use the blooms just for cutting. That's also were I am planting other roses that have plant habits not up to par to go into the mixed beds but have blooms worth cutting.

The roses are looking surprisingly great. Some even have tiny buds showing already. The spring show will be short in height though as I cut my plants back drastically for the spring prunning.

I always do a large veggie garden and that means mainly tomatoes. I planted so many tomatoes this year. More than ever before. However I bought more tomatoes today and will have to get them planted tomorrow.

I found smaller potted plants of Jaune Flamme, Cosmonaut Volkov, Amish Paste and Black Cherry. Of those four the only one I have grown before is Black Cherry. I loved those Black Cherries last year.
