Chad don't give up. Anything that looks like it is going to bloom, cut it out also. Hurray!

Yes exactly what Lynn said! You can see there is at least one viable rosette on your plant! Keep cutting the blooms off! and once the rosette is large enough (or is growing any type of roots) remove it and plant it on its own so it doesn't get the idea to bloom! Thumbs up Crossing Fingers! These are always fingers crossed situations! I tip my hat to you.

I just might try this. I have a large Pacific Magic Night that started to bloom a week or so ago. Although it may be too late, it's not my only one so I just shrugged and let it go to bloom rather than hacking into it the moment I noticed a change. Not much of a bloom stalk either! The flowers are nestled pretty well into the rosette.

Paul, I find those ones to be the most likely to survive for me...although in your heat, I'd definitely shade it after you cut off the bloom. You don't have anything to lose! Thumbs down

Here's my two attempts at getting them to grow extra rosettes! I tried to snip the flower stalks as cleanly as I could. The first picture is Pacific Magic Night, the second is Sempervivum tectorum.

Update on those photos with new growth after lopping off 2 bloom stalks resulted in 9 new bloom stalks. Glare Those were then taken off too to see what happens next.

Green Ice, have a success on one plant, not so much on the other 2.

Thank You! Now the next step is to get them growing off the mother plant. Think I will let them get bigger.

I also have found that after they flower the hen will produce a few chicks on it's death bed. Don't toss them

I really wish I had done it to 'Unicorn'! I would at least had a chance at a chick or three.
None of the chicks from 'Unicorn' seeds are special in any way. Slight red or pink on the tips. They are really young and small now. Maybe they'll show something next year.

Yes Terri, you really do want to wait until the second year to make any decisions on what the seedlings will look like. Some of them are late bloomers.
