Steve, the leaves might work better when it's not so hot.

A new combo pot I put together last weekend. It has Aglaonemas, Neoregelia, Callisia soconuscensis & elegans, Plectranthus amboinicus, Rhipsalis teres, Peperomia verticillata & dolabriformis, and Begonia 'Castaway.':

The Peperomia prostrata was purchased as is a few months ago. About 2 mos ago, I added some stems of variegated zigzag plant (Euphorbia tithymaloides) and a stem of variegated lucky bamboo (Dracaena braunii.)

The plants in this pot are adjusted, rooted, loving the way this looks!

Lots of blooms from these 2 pots!

Hey @purpleinopp, do you recommend putting three species of Kalanchoe together? I am way ahead of myself here, as I was planning on repotting them in the Spring, but I was considering putting my 'Florist Kalanchoe,' 'Mariner Kalanchoe,' and 'Mother of Thousands' in a pot together.

My concern is that the first two are pretty small compared to my 'Mother of Thousands,' and I don't want her to choke out the other two.

At the very least, could I put the first two together (if you think putting all three together would be a bad idea considering the MoT's size)?

Thank You!

That depends on the look you're after. ...but as you said, the look won't be static as the plants grow. All 3 love tons of sun, so from that standpoint, they'd be happy together.

Several plants make leaf-edge babies in the hundreds/thousands while still attached to the mama plant, so I'm not sure exactly which one you have. Some get a lot bigger, a lot more quickly than the others, and I haven't had all of them.

Yours might be one of these popular ones:
Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe 'Houghtonii')
Mother of Thousands (Kalanchoe delagoensis)
Mother of Millions (Kalanchoe laetivirens)

I guess I'm looking to make less pots to look after and I figured they being from the same Genus, would work okay together maybe, haha.

I have the last one you linked.

May I ask what you mean by "static"?

I have come to this thread a bunch of times and fall in love with the Cherry Pot of @Cinta, Cintas. That Purple Tradescantia steals the show for me. I love how you placed them in the pot. I love all your pots Cinta, but that one is to die for.

Tiffany, @purpleinopp, I know I am repeating myself to you, but your Coleus & Tahitian bridal veil pot is an awesome combo, I have to do that next year. It looks so right.
As I look thru this thread, I notice that although all of you have different pots with very different plantings, your personal style always shows thru. It would be fun to see pics posted of combo's without knowing who planted them, and see if we are able to spot who's are who's . I bet we would be pretty good at it. Nice all, your love of plants shows.

Static as in not changing. A combo pot is a dynamic entity because plants grow at diff speeds, and there's always the question of to turn, or not to turn. I used to be fastidious about symmetry but now most of my pots have a front & back and don't get turned. So many options for whatever one's personal proclivities might be.

lauriebasler. that pot has been good for 3 yrs now. I have to thin the purple plant and maybe add a coleus or two but every body seems to be happy. I bring it in every year and it seems to survive winter indoor pretty good.

I started a few years ago doing combo pots with perennials I could leave out all winter and some houseplants that I could bring in and use each year. I hate wasting money buying annuals every year.

A group of companion pots, hanging out next to pineapple plants (and a Crinum, the fatter, longer leaves to the left) that are still in ground. Pineapples must be put in a pot to come inside to save for winter here. I think I will put them in hanging pots so their girth won't take up elbow-room in good light.

Pineapples are so wide and pokey. I can't handle that.
Here's a large basket with plastic liner for inside over winter. In that are separate pots
I like this way, because you can see when water drains through, but if you don't go overboard the water evaporates without over wetting the plants.
Plant it and they will come.

I gave the pot on the L as a gift. The Kalanchoes will bloom soon, then can be discarded & the Chinese evergreens & Alternanthera should live on indefinitely.

Where to stick some of those last cuttings after one has assembled enough pots? I found spots! Drain holes, to be exact.

You have an amazing variety of things to play with. I like the third pic where the pot has holes in the side. I bet a Sanseveria would send shoots right out the side of that.
Lovely shade of pink, your Christmas cactus in the last pic.
Plant it and they will come.

TYVM! After playing around with holes in the sides of pots for a few yrs, I've learned more about which perform as expected/hoped, and which don't. I feel like I'm exiting the experimental phase & new pots will look more like what I'd imagined when I started messing around with side holes. Most spots where pots hang or sit have uneven light, even outside, so there's a whole front/back thing going on with most of them by now.

The plants in the top of this pot aren't the most noticeable feature I think. It's the dangling basket plants (Callisias.)

@purpleinopp,
I am curious if you think a combo pot of the following would work together well. The lucky bamboo I have is not the cut stems, but the actual rooted plants (like those you have pictured). I have other plants; I realize two in a pot isn't all that much of a combo pot, but none of them seem like they'd do as well together/they're way too large.

Lucky Bamboo (Dracaena sanderiana)

Arrowhead Vine (Syngonium podophyllum 'Berry Allusion')

Their rootballs are all the same size currently, I am just concerned about varying watering likes/dislikes (I am not sure if they would mesh well together in that respect?). I *think* their lighting is the same (maybe the dracanea would need more light between all of them?) I am new to combo potting and I know you have used these all before in various pots, so I was curious how you feel these three would co-habitate together. Thank You!

Edited to remove a plant.

Thanks for asking! I used to do vines with other plants but I've gotten away from that because it seemed like I was trimming the vines so often. If that sounds like fun, and as far as getting along otherwise, I bet they would be great friends. Both of these plants can adapt from no direct light to hours of it per day.

Fun that this discussion would come back to the top today since I was taking a few pics to add earlier. :+)

The arrowhead vine that I thought may have been leggy (in my topic I created to ask about it) will be my first one to "take off." I may just leave those two separated in that case. Hilarious!
