Sheryl is right, cultivars are different
. The giant false astilbe ( goats beard) gets to be 5 feet, Sister Theresa is a mid size and full blooms at 28 inches.
Pumilla ( late blooming now ) is about 12 inches.
I have a dwarf aruncus (as well as a tall one) which I love . It is only about 16" tall when in bloom. The source from which I obtained it no longer sells it & I have never seen it anywhere else. It is growing well but I really check its spot every spring.
I have goat's beard...I'll have to pay more attention to it next year! Mine bloom pretty early in the season, usually done by June. They're all very pretty in your gardens.

LOVE the astilbes! I bought some this spring from a co-op on cubits. They arrived beautifully, and I babied them in the house until it was time to plant them outside. Put them in our raised bed in the shade garden, and then watched them slowly fail. I decided that despite my daily waterings, that bed was not getting enough water. Installed a drip system and viola! astilbes are putting out all kinds of new growth! Don't know if it might be too late in the season for them to bloom, but at least they are getting a foothold and growing!
They do love moist but not wet. They take a long time to get their roots established.Next spring they should be fantastic. They are also heavy feeders.
I compost mine in the fall.
Hope they make a fabulous show for you next spring, Brenda. I put in a couple that I got off of the dead-and-dying rack at Lowe's ($2 bucks, how could I say no?). They had much larger leaves than the ones I planted previously, but I have no idea what they look like. Yay for surprises next spring!
Mistake of photo or mistake in planting that plant? Must cut the stems of columbine which are growing in the gravel driveway. I do wish that they would stay in the flower beds.
I just use the Coleus as annuals to fill in blank spots , and get some all season color. There is a grower by me that sells to the public and I get them in 4 inch pots for a dollar each.
