Do you mean Claude Monet? I have two roses named Monet, but one's mauve and the other's an apricot blend. Claude Monet does have stripes, but it also has a lot of pink in the blooms, in contrast to Rainbow Niagara.

I'd choose Rainbow Niagara. It's easier to find than Claude Monet. It's more vigorous, and it blooms more often.

Yes, that must be it. 'Claude Monet'. She got it as a cut flower and I tracked down the name a couple of months ago..

I've been on the hunt for a couple for years for 'Romantic Antique' that was in a bride's bouquet at a wedding we had here. I think I saw it's sister 'Caramel Antique' somewhere, but I was smitten by RA... Lovey dubby

Wow! It is fabulous, isn't it? Look at this photo of it.

I bought Caramel Antike from Palatine a few years ago, so maybe they will carry Romantic Antike someday.

Here it is in a table bouquet 3 days after the wedding:

The other pale pink rose was also very nice. Beautiful in bud and open.

So how does Caramel Antike do? (I've seen it spelled antique by the florist trade) I've heard some roses grown for the cut trade are not great garden plants.

It's a German rose, and Antike is the German word for Antique. Caramel Antike has been translated into English as Antique Caramel and is usually sold here under that name, but Romantic Antike hasn't been renamed in any English-speaking countries yet.

As for the roses grown for the cut-roses trade, you're right. Many of them are grown only in hothouses in South America and don't really do well anywhere else.

Wow that is a gorgeous rose! I would love to try to root it. Google took me to a grower in Colombia, but it doesn't appear to be grown anywhere closer. I'll keep looking, and I will send a note to Palatine.

There's a cut flower grower somewhat near to us in Watsonville that is/was growing it. When I was hunting it down a couple of years ago, the florist told me where it was being grown. A friend of mine knows the grower and went over there pleading my case, but they were unwilling to give up a plant. I'm going to check with my friend to see if he can get some cuttings this year. I no longer see it on the Kordes website, but 2 years ago, I would have needed to import a very large number of plants to be able to get it. I can't remember exactly, but it may have only been available to the wholesale trade.

Yes, I understood that the variation in spelling was a translation. I remember that it was frustrating searching under the translated spelling until I found the German spelling.

Perhaps they would sell you a small bouquet; you could enjoy it for a day, lop off the blooms and try to root the stems.

So, far, I haven't had luck propagating a cutting from a bouquet... Sad Years ago, my mother sent me an arrangement that had 'Hocus Pocus' in it. I was Hell-bent on having it and stuck every stem, hoping for success.. My better sense told me that trying a flowering stem was iffy, and the time of year was also wrong.. and of course, none of them made it. I've only had success so far with dormant cuttings.

Maybe there is a preservative sprayed on the florist roses? I have not had luck with florist roses, but I keep trying.

Almost all the roses coming from Central and South America are treated with an appalling amount of chemicals. If you haven't read Amy Stewart's book "Flower Confidential", it's an eye opener to the cut flower industry.... and also the history of the 'Stargazer Lily'. Good read. She talks about what a cut rose goes through to be shipped to the US.

Yes, entertaining, I agree. I've grown so jaded that I now have little interest in solid-colored roses. I'll keep the ones I already have, of course, but I probably won't buy any new solid-colored roses.

I received four roses from K&M Nursery a couple of days ago. Desperado, Lynette, Rosie O'Donnell, and Nicole Carol Miller. I already have all four. The first two will replace two own-root roses that have never done well, and the second two will simply be duplicates. I really like those two roses and wanted at least two of each.

Desperado looks like a beautiful rose, and Lynette is stunning. would you call the color on Lynette similar to Gemini? I'll bet Nicole Carol Miller would look nice with any number of my Iris Smiling I've never grown a red rose with white reverse.. I know you've mentioned Rosie O'Donnell before.

Today I stopped in at a nursery that had this little striped rose that I was smitten with when I saw it a couple of weeks ago.. Couldn't get the darned thing out of my mind, and couldn't find anything on it. The nursery told me it was hybridized by someone in the Monterey Bay Rose Society. I'm guessing it's a floribunda from the look of it's foliage, but can't really be sure... It's name is Rex.

Lynette is similar to Gemini, but it has fewer petals.

I love that Rex bloom.

I waited a day too long to take a picture of 'Rex' open. Flowers are about 3" across.

One of the few lavenders I have. 'Perfume Perfection' (actually, it's the only lavender). This was in a bundle at Costco.. I had to get it to get another that I wanted, but it's a great performer. Kind of reminds me of a lavender 'Iceberg'. As the name would imply, it's got a nice fragrance.

Gorgeous shots. I love Perfume Perfection. I bought mine about 15 years ago (when it was called Cotillion) from J&P. It's hard to believe Jackson & Perkins used to be such a good nursery. My neighbors and I could hardly wait for the new J&P catalogs to come out in fall, and we always ordered every new rose the nursery offered. I still have most of the ones I bought back then, but I never buy anything from J&P now.

Cotillion! That's one I used to grow, and it just may be my unidentified rose. For a lot of years, J & P was the only place I knew to get good newer roses. That was before the internet, before I became aware of all the other mail order companies.
My mailbox would fill with catalogs, but J & P was the only one I trusted. Wayside was wonderful to look at, but their prices were so high!
Let's see if I can add some photos I took yesterday with my phone. The late flush I'm getting now has incredible richness of color.
