I was wondering the same thing.....

Is there any way to view past presenters slideshows or Power Point presentations?

They only do this for a few weeks in late winter/early spring. I don't think there are any saved from the past but you can ask Michael Miller.

Becky,
I just chatted with Michael. They take the old programs off after a week so you cannot access them later.

One fun program or more of an activity is Daylily Bingo. Everyone brings a plant and then you play bingo to see who wins. Free plants are always welcome at meetings. Door prizes of gloves, bulbs, hose or other garden related gifts are nice. I love to hear speakers. Each are so different. I couldn't say whom was the best.

Seedlings would be a great topic. We should not forget to mentor the newbies. Many of them are not interested in making crosses and planting seeds. A companion plant topic would be interesting also. I have heard hosta speakers and a daffodil collector before.

This summer we had a club Progessive luncheon. FUN, we got to tour 4 club gardens! I don't feel so badly about my weeds now Rolling my eyes.

The AHS also has some programs available for use.

Hey everybody!
I've got a strange question...
Has anyone ever considered doing a club presentation over a web service? Where you can show your presentation from your own computer and talk to the club members over voip or speaker phone?
This would be a way to promote your Daylily business while sitting at your computer.

Anyone be interested in trying this?
Just curious about what you might think about this.

it would be wonderful for people like Becky and myself who aren't able to join a regional DL club Thumbs up
We could start an online club if more hybridizers would be willing to make a web presentation! Hurray!

Why not have a virtual club? People from all over the world could join.

Another good and very entertaining speaker is Scott Elliott. Heard him at the Region 15 Summer meeting and he spoke at our October club meeting. Both times were great.

Yes, Scott is a very good speaker.

My purpose for raising the question about web meetings is due to the difficulty I have in finding local speakers and guests to join our club meetings and present. We don't have a pool of hybridizers in our club but do have members present. We have had great programs from our members, however the budget only allows for 1 meeting of bringing in a guest from out of the area or out of state. As the program chair person for the past 2 years, the job is not easy unless you don't care what topic you cover. (not sure that back yard chickens or bee keeping offered by the master gardening group is an interest to a daylily club)

I know the technology for web based meetings. Anyone with a computer and headset with microphone can join thru VOIP and screen sharing. One meeting organizer can select the presenter who shares their desktop presentation and put the audio out on speakers and your presenter can be anyone in the world. Also Q & A could work in a meeting room allowing interaction between the presenter and audience. Today the technology would allow webcam view of the presenter. (but it is not necessary)
I am thinking outside the box so to speak. I am thinking of using technology to fill the difficult task of finding program speakers on topic for a daylily club. I just pitched my idea to the ATP group here to see what your reaction to it would be.
Think of yourself in a club meeting where hybridizer ________________(fill in the blank with a name) is presenting their program on the screen and talking live to the group but not present in person.
Would this be a quality session for a club meeting?
Is this something that you would enjoy and attend?

I think it would be a good option for those of us that don't have a daylily club near us to attend. I would love to be able to view a program (sort of like what Dave and Trish do here with video taping). Being a visual person, I'd really prefer a video vs. a podcast type of presentation. Power Point could be used, actual video, a slide show presentation with a voice over, etc. There are so many ways one could do such a presentation for anyone on the internet to view.

There have been some videos posted by the various hybridizers about their garden/nursery on their websites where they actually show a tour of the greenhouse or the seedling beds to talk about their hybridizing program. I love that kind of video presentation. It's awesome to me. Of course, my interest is indeed in hybridizing daylilies.

I love the idea. It would be great for those who don't have a club near them and for folks like me who just want more time with daylily folks.

I was wondering if anyone has used the AHS videos? Could you post which you thought was the best. I have been contacted by a few local people asking about forming a club. I thought this might be a good start if we do organize and have a small group/small funds.

Teresa,

See if you can get one or more of the "Daylily Addict" DVDs. They are full of interviews of well known hybridizers, done fantastically and very entertaining and informative. It's such a shame that they are no longer being produced.

Here's a website where you can see samples of each one .... http://thedaylilyaddict.blogsp...

AHS doesn't have them to my knowledge, but you may be able to find someone you can borrow it from. You could also try contacting Charlie Dorsey to see if he has any copies available for sale.

Suggestion: Please be very careful when taping presenters at various functions unless you have the presenter's signed consent form giving you express permission to video tape them and then to use/ show those presentations on public forums. People do this all the time with phones today ( without permission) , but there's the possibility you could run into someone who would/ could litigate if you are taping them without their permission. Then ( looking at all angles) one should consider - if taping speakers at a Regional or National meeting, for example, where people pay registration fees to attend these events, should a certain amount of time pass before these videos are re-shown to everyone? AHS has forms that we planned to use at seminars during this past summer's National meeting but there just wasn't time to arrange and set up cameras. camera people, and secure all of the consent forms from presenters in advance. We included a clause giving the presenters the right to review the videos and have right of first refusal if they didn't like what they saw. I hope that videotaping forums at National Conventions and Regional meetings can happen in the future, but setting this up requires quite a bit of advance legwork, especially since hotels charge EXORBITANT prices for use of any audio visual equipement, and at conventions, all local people are already extremely busy. All such AV equipment would have to be brought into the convention hotels, people secured to tape the sessions, signed forms obtained, etc. AHS does have a Utube page, and if we can complete all the legwork, it is possible we will be able to videotape parts of National convention seminars, obtain permissions, and then show them on our Utube channels. Making such seminars available, however, WOULD fall under the domain of AHS's educational mission and we already have some videos on our Utube channel. It is a good goal to consider!

Also, from the standpoint of a presenter, please ask yourself how YOU would feel if you were asked to do a presentation and during the presentation, you happened to look out in the audience and you saw someone videotaping you without your permission. This has happened to me personally, and it isn't a good feeling!
