This is great information. Is a bud builder a type of rebloomer or something different. I would love to have some of these bud builders.
If I order a daylily, will I be able to know in advance if it is a bud builder. Or do you just have to keep an eye on it.
AB is a good bud builder? Santa Face is cute. Lovey dubby (recap) Crown of Creation, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, Firestorm, Lullabye Baby and Northwind Dancer, Funky Spunky, LILLIAN'S FUNKY SPUNKY. I cannot believe these bud counts and I am so glad I found out about this.
Can you think of anymore bud builders? Green Grin!

I am sure there are lots of bud builders and most are described as that by the hybidizer when released, but may not be decribed as such in the AHS data base. I only have two, the one mentioned and a seedling new this year, both are dips.

I was just doing a little reading before work and I found this article, what do you think? Some of this is pretty impressive.

There are 30 bud builders listed in ATP's Daylily Database - the full list is at the end of this post, but you can also search for specific characteristics yourself (http://garden.org/plants/group...[27) ... After going to that link, just scroll down a little to "Plant Traits" and click the "Bud Builder" box, and hit your computer's return button to see them.

Thumb of 2012-08-23/chalyse/479eab

Some that have been mentioned above do not indicate their bud-building ability in the database, though, so they could use some updating, if you are sure they are bud builders (click the "Plant Database" tab at the top of ATP's pages, put the daylily's name in the search box, click the link to the correct daylily in the resulting search links, and scroll all the way down to find the link to update information)

Thumb of 2012-08-23/chalyse/f2b11c

Then just click the "bud builder" box and save the new information.

Great information!! Thanks so much. Green Grin! I will check out the data base and thanks for the list. Unfortunately none of what I ordered is on this list. However they will be on my next list.

I've grown DKJ for 4 years, have 12 fans, and it's never been a bud builder here. Neither has Synaptic, Point of View or North Wind Dancer.

Lullabye Baby isn't on the list and I've read that it is a bud builder.

I think once again that weather and soil can be a factor. I have seen people in the same zone as I am get lots of rebloom and I barely get any.

Well, I can't find any information about LB but it does seem to be popular. Did find this.

I have wondered about this too as friends in AL and GA have bud builders on cultivars which are not here.

I have Final Touch, which was listed on the link that Susan posted, and it's never been a bud builder for me. One of my seedlings this year was a bud builder, but nothing like the one that Fred posted pictures of! Maybe next year will be better. I sure hope so!

If no one checked the Bud Builder box, a daylily would NOT come up on the list.

Final Touch has been a bud builder for me the past three years.
Crimson Pirate is another that usually bud builds.
Autumn Wood has done bud building two of the nine years I've grown it.
North Wind Dancer has been a bud builder two of the five years I've grown it.

This seedling of mine, Dust Be Diamonds X Tuxedo Junction, was a bud builder this season. It did not bud build last year in its first season and none of the sibs are bud builders.

Debra, I have Final Touch, Crimson Pirate, and Autumn Wood. None have been a bud builder for me. It's exciting to know that they are for you though! Maybe mine will do that eventually! Love your seedling!!

Missouri Gold was a BB last year and it was it's first year here. No bloom this year. Autumn Wood is blooming well this year with first bloom and has buds yet so will watch it. Final Touch bloomed with 2 buds and that was that.

Debra, I love your seedling. I have liked this "Form" of daylilies for years. I have 1 or 2 seedlings that are this shape. I moved everything this Spring and these didn't bloom or I didn't see them if they did.

I haven't seen anyone introduce this form, but I for one would love to have one. Rolling my eyes.

Mona - You are sweet. This "form" is an old fashioned one. There are lots of older daylilies with this more triangular form. There's a good chance I will introduce that seedling because it's a late bloomer, bud builds and multiplies very well.

Off the top of my head I can tell everyone that Dan Bachman's FIFI SAVES THE DAY is a strong budbuilder. I'll have to look through PlantStep to come up with more. I'll list them when I find them.

Wow, that a new one! Can't really find it, do you have a picture of it? Lisa, if it is a good bud builder can you put it in the data base on ATP? I haven't had much luck with the data base. I was trying to print out a list and could not get it to work. Sad
I found it! The spelling was a little wrong, it's 'Fifi Saved The Day'.
I have got a list, and so far have purchased three, 'Pee Wee Big Adventure', 'Firestorm', and 'Ruffles in Lavender'. Oh, I am ordering one I found on ATP called 'Point of View', they have it at Sterrett Gardens and I am getting an order together anyway. 'Point of View' is beautiful and blooms all summer long in my zone, the flowers are 6" wide. Drooling
Anyway, this is a good start and I will wait and see what happens. They may or may not build buds but they are pretty and I will enjoy them while I am waiting. Green Grin!

From the suggestions so far, these are not marked 'bud-builder' in the data base!

Firestorm, Crown of Creation, Orange Aglow, Ruffles in Lavender, Final Touch, Crimson Pirate, Autumn Wood, Missouri Gold, Fifi Saved the day.

Lilian's Funky Spunky and Fifi Saved the Day, these are georgeous! Drooling
If you find anyone selling them please let me know. Green Grin!

Susan,
Tree mail Fred (spunky1) about Lillian's Funky Spunky. He's the hybridizer and should have some to sell. He may not get right back to you because we have the hurricane weather going on and he may not have power and/or Internet.

I really think our Beautiful Edgings is a bud builder. I am posting a picture of one scape that has produced or is still producing buds. I started counting at 17 buds and yesterday, I was up to 52--totally amazing to me. This is a new plant in our garden this year, and I can only wonder what will happen next year-- will it do the same thing, or is this controlled by weather, and other conditions?

Even though it is late August, this plant still puts out large, beautiful flowers.
