Thanks for the suggestions Gordon. I looked through my white tiles, checking to see what I should keep and what to throw away. Some of the tiles were chipped so who needs them since I have so many more. Going to clean them up then decide what project to use them on. Think I will use some of them under the sink in bathroom. I had throught about using some tiny square tiles on my window sill, but then when they put in a new laminate countertop they covered the sill too and I really like that better. I get so many ideas from everyone!! Group hug

Pegi, PLEASE don't toss those tiles! I was hoping you could ask the question in the new Q & A thread over at Garden Art...many people will benefit from the answers. And I have some answers for you regarding paint.

Lynn, so often our two forums can criss-cross...all these containers many of them made are garden art. Hurray!

Gordon...you creativity is amazing. Especially love the heart container. Lovey dubby

That is true Becky. That's why I like to point people in that direction. I though Pegi could get some really great ideas in your forum for using the tile. Even the broken tile. : )

Have you guys discussed some of the pre-molded shapes available for home renovation work? They are mostly crown moldings, decorative ceiling elements and the like. I'm sure that in the hands of those here they'd find all sorts of new creative lives.
Also have you discussed using extruded polystyrene insulation, the blue or pink insulating board you find at building supply stores. It's usually readily available in 1, 2, 3 and 4" thickness' and is much stronger than Styrofoam.

Ok, ok. Now, I am a 1,2,3 person, as stated before.

1. Find 1" thick styrofoam
2. Drill Holes and remove any labels

Questions
1. what do I put on the sides of it to make it look like stucco? how do I do it? and where do I get it?

3. Paint with paints shown by Jacki (Bluefox) above
4. Trim can be added with glue.

Questions
1.What kind of glue do I use to glue sytro together or trim to it. and where do I get it?
2. What do I seal it with and where do I get it?

Lynn here's a link to a decorative molding supplier http://foamcrownmolding.com/. This by Googling -decorative polystyrene mouldings-. When I first started working we used extruded polystyrene to make massing studies/models of projects. In practice I've used it once as a curved ceiling element to reflect cove lighting.

I could see using a chair rail, crown molding or other trim piece to "frame" out a planter. Or a slices of a ceiling medallions to add a fan shaped element.

This stuff can be cut/carved using either a sharp tool or heat source like a hot wire machine or soldering iron/wood burning tool. One caution is the fumes are TOXIC (same w/Styrofoam) so read the MSDS (material safety data sheet) and work in a well ventilated area.

Okay Debbie, here is where you will find a list of what you might need to complete your styrofoam project. Second post at the beginning of this thread. The thread "Styrofoam Troughs" in Containers forum

Evan, there are some great ideas for molding shapes on that link. Thank you. : )
Also your advice about toxins in the heating process of foams is important for all to remember.

Bluefox, I can't tell you how much I appreciate you giving us this awesome idea. I found the latex paint you showed a picture of in the first post, at walmart. And I am still harvesting styrofoam. But the applications are endless. Quick question. The acrylic paints you used........where they outside paints or can I use my Folkart acrylics that I have tons of already?

By the way, in all of my research, I found yet more info on Debra Baldwin and on her link that she gives for sources, she names your website. Isn't that cool.

Also, this is what I found to adhere styro to styro, but if you scroll down and read the description, it looks like it would work on all of our little projects. http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/...

yes..... that sika product i s one of the best.. I've used it for years... all their adheasves are great.. though my new personal favorite from HD is a new one for them.. and I buy over a thousand dollars worth of all types a year.. is ths new upgrade of the PL line by locktight.. their advanced... mght be somewhat unavailable everywhere..
http://www.homedepot.com/webap...
it has a number of things going for it... also great adheasion.. I go by how hard it is to remove from ones fingers after ..
early set up... in a thin film it's hard in a shorter time
it's easier to reopen a tube you've put away and wish to reuse.. the tinyest bit is hard in the tip and can be picked out sika has the entire tip set up...and requires recutting
and the nicest is when you squeeze some out working and set the tube down..i t doesn't continue to oooze out i t almost has a dry aspect to it...
not trying to say it is preferable for everyone... but also a great choice.. and sticks like mad...fast
