This is the third year in a row that right at the end of my seed selling season, someone runs up a large bill and then doesn't pay. Had to just block another one from bidding on my auctions.

Ed - Thanks for adding your LA seller name to my list. I am trying to compile a list of good sellers for future reference.

Cindy - I am sorry to hear that someone has done that to you. (And three years in a row for buyers to do that to you .... grrrrr!)

I really appreciate all the good sellers here on ATP and the few I purchase from on the LA! I don't buy a lot ... mostly seeds .... but even being a small time buyer, I appreciate the professional way that sellers treat ALL their customers ... big or small. Thank you to each and every one of you! Thank You!

Cindy, I am so sorry you are having trouble. I think I have had at least one buyer not pay every year that I have been selling seeds. Some years Mike Longo got involved and was able to light a fire under the buyer, but some years I had to cancel the auctions and relist the seeds.

This year I am a buyer and can't get the seller to contact me about shipping time for a plant I won. I don't like to plant after the end of September and I have had no response to two emails.

Did you email them directly or through the lily auction message forum? I am finding that people don't seem to know how to use the message forum on the LA. I send out messages and people try to reply to the email instead of going into the lily auction and replying to the message, if they do that I don't get the reply. It can be frustrating since I am waiting on answers to if I should ship or not and they are replying and neither one of us is getting anywhere. I have been known to do it as well because just looking at the email sometimes it looks like one from the person instead of the message system.

I've run into this a couple time as well. I think it needs to be made clearer that replying to the e-mail is not what should happen.

I bought seeds from one seller and left a message with the messaging system and never got a response back from seller. They did send the seeds out...but then never left me a positive feedback. grrr... I always pay right away because I don't like outstanding debts... and leave positive feedback for them when I get the seeds or plants.

Definitely Different is the name...It was a rainy, overcast morning when I took the pic. Kind of makes it look a little darker than it is.

Michele, I do use the LA message system. Last night this customer finally paid me but Mike Longo made me refund his money Sad He said customers have to learn that if they don't pay in the time they are supposed to that they are blocked from ever bidding again. He has strick rules and they have to be complied with and he also said that this customer could have emailed me and let me know if there was a problem paying and he chose not to.

That's really not fair to you, Cindy. He's making you suffer also, but I guess that's how they weed out the bad ones. That person didn't happen to have a lot of a's in his username, did he? And can you repost all those crosses now to make up for it? I'm really sorry that happened, and sometimes I wonder when I see the same people bidding week after week if and when they ever pay up.

Well I think Mike has really made this a safe place to shop and be satisfied. I had to read your post about four times to even get the point of what mike was saying. I dont however agree with him on this. Fine, block him from ever bidding...but dont take away your money to make a point. Hes blocked anyway.

I often wonder if the people who bid insanely high bids on things have buyers remorse and dont pay. I especially wonder this with the seeds. People are in bidding wars 12 days out...thats not good. You wonder if after they won the bidding war, if they really then want the seeds after all.

I think that decision should have taken one more step to be fair and have the slow payer learn his lesson, the money should be paid back only if he returns the seeds, and he should sill be banned.

Oh, I hadn't sent the seeds out yet because I was still waiting for payment.

@Betja - Betty, no there wasn't a lot of a's in the name but I had that one bid on some of my auctions too. He is from China and he was very slow at paying also but he finally did.

I buy and sell on the Auction. My seller alias is" curriesdaylilies". I have had good and bad experiences on the auction but you can have that anywhere. The thing that bothers me most is when people don't reply to emails or message and don't leave feedback. I had 4 auctions for seedlings that closed 2 weeks ago and still no payment. I am not going to relist. If they don't pay soon those pretty faulkner seedlings may end up on the compost pile because I need the room to line out some of mine. If people don't want to pay in a timely manner then don't bid.

One negative experience that became a positive experience happened to me on the auction a few years back. A woman bid on multiple daylilies I had listed. Within a few days of the auction closing her husband passed away so she emailed and asked if she could cancel without leaving her bad feedback. Well of course I was not going to do that to her at such a difficult time. The next spring she contacted via email and wanted to know if I still had enough of those daylilies to sell some to her and she even purchased again that fall.

There are actually people on the auction who bid people up and don't really want to pay the price. I had one daylily I listed last year and there were two bidders. Well it went for a high dollar amount and I had another so I offered the loser a reserve auction at their highest bidding price. The loser emailed me to say that he was only bidding the other person up because they bid at the last minute (it was two days away from closing) and he wanted them to have to pay more because they did that. He said he could get the same daylily elsewhere for less. I had price checked before I even listed it and you couldn't but that was irrelevant at this point anyway. I would hope that if he would of eventually had the highest bid he would have paid because he has high feedback on the auction, but he may not have.

I had another buyer last year that bid/bought over $3000 in plants and they even emailed to thank me for some of the reserve auctions I listed for them and they never paid. I wasn't the only seller who got duped, there was about 5 others.

Michele, I for one didn't know about the message forum on the LA and was wondering why the sellers addy was not in the message. This is also frustrating for buyers that do not bid often and not familiar with a change. Now the next time I bid I will have to figure out how to use the message forum. I am glad you mentioned it and hope I will remember to use it when I win a daylily. I did have the addys of the folks I won daylilies from so all went well.
If you want to be happy for a lifetime plant a garden!
