I have gotten 2 plants from Pete Harry from the auction. They are very bad about communicating and if a plant doesn't arrive they will say they can't find the tracking number and will send another one. I don't know if that is just an excuse or actually true but when they tell more than one person that at different times I find it is an excuse and they haven't shipped it yet. I would think that after one lost plant they would definitely keep up with the tracking numbers better. Now that it is included in the cost of shipping and the tracking number is on the receipt I would think they would definitely keep it since the receipts are used for tax purposes.

Anyway, the plant I got last year was a DF and it was pretty puny, it died over the winter because by the time they shipped the second plant ( the first apparently got lost in the mail) we started getting freezing weather and it didn't have time to get established. I went ahead and bought another of the same this year and it was a nice plant. It was not an intro of theirs and no it wasn't the leek sized that their intros would be. I'm sure their intros have been divided/potted way before the other cultivars they sell have been so of course they will be bigger when shipped. I was happy with the plant but don't expect ALL of the plants to be really huge unless you are buying in the fall and have them shipped in the spring.

I will report when I get them. He still hasnt written back. I had bid on a 5$ fan of 4. Clearly 5$ is pretty cheap, and I thought it would be good if I lost an auction, that my already won plant would have a buddy to ride with. OK, so I won the plants I wanted...and this one. I noticed someone who I didnt know, bid me up in tiny bits, until we got to 16$ ( which was actually my high set bid). I really didnt want the plant that bad, so I wanted the person bidding against me to have it. I paid for the plant ( of course) and shipping and asked if he would be willing to send it to that person. Since I havent heard from him, I figure thats a no go. I knew it was a long shot, but I really wanted to surprise that person with the plant.

I always swore I would never buy from Him anyway...various reasons. I just glanced at the seller when I was bidding, and I saw the A at the front and lilies at the end, and I got in my mind it was abbundant...not amazing. When plants are concerned, it 95% them, or James Hall. Michele, people keep saying they have got your plants, I keep missing them Confused Ill keep looking tho, even tho I buy just a few. I just dont have enough sun here.

The description in your first paragraph does not sound like Amazing_daylilies at all. I've never seen them put up a plant for auction for less than $45-$50 on average, and certainly never one for $5. James Hall (Mljomo) has a lot of auctions where they start at $2.00 and the bidding goes up from there, but I don't think Amazing_daylilies would ever do that.

Actually, there were a couple of plants he had last week for 5$ and 10$. The one I got was Minstrel Singer 4F. It ended up closing at 15$. As you stated above, his auction was very short last week. I dont doubt I will get good plants, or I hope I do, Ill just remember hes not a big talker.

Pam, I just checked the Closed Items on the LA, and you're right about the $5.00 price -- and I almost couldn't believe it! I've never noticed one that cheap, so I guess I'll have to look closer.

Michele, I've had such a different experience than you had that it kinda scares me that I might get a bad plant from Pete Harry through the LA after all -- but so far the plants have been exceptional. I just won a DF of FASHION ICON from them two weeks ago, and when the plant arrived later last week it was a beautiful TF.

But I do agree that their communication is terrible, although sometimes Rossen does reply. So now I just send them the $$ through PayPal and include a note as to when to ship it. And so far that has worked just fine for me. I have often gotten some of their newer introductions for half price (or less) through the Lily Auction, so I'm ready to put up with whatever I have to if I can do that. And lately they've had some really wonderful Dips...

Betty..I tried to send you the auction, just to make sure. When I test the link, it just goes to the main LA page. If you want to check it out, just look up Minstrel Singer in the closed auction box. It should come up. Im going to check.

Yep...it came up.
I got Different Direction at the same time, Im looking forward to the big flowers. Its something a bit different for me.

I have been listing them in July, Aug, Sept, and Oct. I don't keep them listed all the time like Mark S and James Hall does. At one point I just had seedlings and seeds for a few weeks. Right now I have one page of listings left, everything else has sold already from the final inventory I took of my sales area. I was trying to get them moved out before I start dividing all the clumps and new intros. In the next couple of weeks I will start dividing everything and start listing it for spring delivery.

Pam, did you see that I changed the first paragraph on my last posting? I looked it up and discovered that you are correct, and I'll admit I was shocked. So those should be great deals for you if they send the kind of plants I've been getting from them!

I have purchased from the Harry's three times. Each time I have gotten lovely plants but have had to basically hunt them down to get them to ship.

SOOO I pose a question for debate:

Is it generally worth it to you to to have to go thru the trouble to get extras on your order or would you discontinue because you expect better service and communication?

The reason I pose this is I am currently having this dilemma. I love the plants I get from them. I HATE having to chase them down. This is fairly standard practice for them from what I have heard from everyone that has ever bought from them on the LA. I hesitate to leave negative feedback because I am so torn as to how I really feel about the whole thing.

Well, If I had ordered from some others, I would have easily had my plants today.
If they dont come next week Ill be really irritated. Now is prime planting time, and since he doesnt answer...how do you get him to ship.
Right now, Im giving Him the benefit of the doubt. This time next week, if I dont have plants, I will be singing a different song.

I will be hard pressed to order from him again. I guess Im just getting old, but when I spend my little bit of money, I dont like trading with people who act like they are doing me the favor. There are others that also sell great plants, and if you check the closed auctions before buying, they usually sell them cheaper.

If you haven't already told them exactly when you need your plant(s) I recommend you email them and let them know you need them right away. Here is the email address if you don't already have it.

[email protected]

Or you can contact them through the Lily Auction by accessing the page for that plant in "Items Won - Closed" and selecting "Contact" near the bottom of the page.

I think you have to let them know to ship right away, or specify a date to them, and hopefully they will take care of it -- they sure did with my FASHION ICON. But of course, I threw in my knee replacement time constraint problem and I'm sure that helped... nodding

I ordered 3 daylilies via the LA. They arrived today - accompanied by 5 large extras! I've never made up my mind about bonus plants. Whether I got any or not wouldn't effect the feedback as long as I received what I paid for. My back started hurting just looking at them Smiling . I looked them all up and they are all recent introductions. I've never had bonus plants sent that more than doubled an order before, though various plant sellers have been generous at times. Just musing about the pros and cons of bonus plants here.

This has been talked about many time, my vote, and I think most others, is they would rather get more fans of the plant they bought, than a bonus. I will add one caveat to that. If happen to be buying an intro, Im really looking to get another intro, or at the least one of last years. Ive always, with rare exception, gotten just that. Now if I dont, I will say Im a bit bummed. I dont get to buy many intros, but the Lambertsons have always sent another intro along as a bonus.

Pam, I for one, think communication is a key part of the buying process. Everyone is busy these days, our time and money is important to us.

I would try emailing again and see if you could get a response soon. If not I would find another source.

When I hear of someone having difficulty with a seller, I try to avoid that seller.
There are so many selections that any one item is rarely that critical.
