I planted a new semp bed last fall and there are still quite a few open spots for plants. I've had major problems with sparrows taking dust baths in it, throwing dirt all over my plants and even knocking some out of the ground. I recently read that sparrows don't like string, so I criss-crossed about 8 pcs. of string across the bed and haven't seen a sparrow near it since. I was thrilled to find such an easy solution! Wonder if that would work for other birds too.
The birds here acted like my scarecrow was there to keep a watch out for cats for them. : )
Great idea about the string Chris. The black bird netting worked like a charm for me, it kept the cats, birds, squirrels and voles out of the beds all fall and winter. Nothing dug up or eaten this year.

The Junco's and White-crowned sparrows like to eat some of my flowers and they dust bathe and make a mess, or scratch the bark mulch all over the lawn, but I do like to have them in my garden.
