Cobweb Joy is really red coming out of winter into spring. Was still red last week.


Zarubianum in it's really dark stage.

Didn't realize Cobweb Joy got that red. Pretty.

I believe it is the growing conditions. Very shallow soil.

Sempervivum means "forever living".
So when I had to bury the feline love of my life - the kitty who made a mommy out of me - I covered her with sempervivum because she will beforever living in my heart.

I LOVED that cat SO much!

I can relate.....

The graves of my cats and dogs are covered in sempervivum and sedum. I wanted something that would grow even when I couldn't take care of it.

So the "reds" are generally reddest in the spring, right?
Not red at winter solstice, when they'd fit with the Christmas scheme, right?

Critter, aren't they covered by snow during winter time in your area?

Well, we didn't HAVE a winter this year!
But even when we do, it doesn't stay blanketed EVERY day.
And the longer winter here than where I came from is what drew me to favor evergreen plants.

Here's a pic of my Pacific Blazing Star. The color intensity is a little washed out because it was taken in full sun. They are marvelous this year.
