Tara beautiful plants!! They look so healthy and happy!! For years I watered with filtered water, thinking that the plants needed it, then once I got lazy and began using plain ole tap water, and they haven't been negatively effected -
I also try to let the water sit for awhile before watering but that isn't always possible!
I tip my hat to you.

Quote from movie;
In nature's scheme of things, there are certain plants which are carnivorous, or eating plants. The Venus Fly Trap is one of the best known of these plants. A fly drawn to the plant by its sweet syrup, brushes against triggered bristles. Just how these plants digest their pray has yet to be explained. There is much still to learn about these fascinating eating plants. This is a newcomer: Triffidus Celestus, brought to earth on the meteorite during the Day of the Triffids. Blinking
Note to users; Keep small pets and kids away from plants. Plants have been known to walk out of their pots. Don't feed with salt water. Spreads by spores or stem peices.
Found on U-Tube and enjoyed watching it again. Hurray!

Quote from movie; All plants move but they don't come out of the ground and come after you. Love that movie. I heard they are making a US remake! It could be better with all the movie magic or it could be like another stupid one found on Sci-Fi channel.
Tara,
My first thought was that the bird came for a drink but they explained that it came for insects trapped inside the flower then became trapped itself. Strange so large of a bird just couldn't tear apart the flower? Sad.

Wow!!! No, I didn't, until you mentioned it, and I went back to look for more! Amazing! It is a beautiful pitcher! Something I'm going to keep my eyes open for!!!! So interesting!

So, I'm wondering…Are there many of us that grow, or are interested in Carnivorous plants? There is such a huge variety of carnivorous…that also cover a large variety of zones… Whistling

I, for one, would love to hear from you, and what you are growing! Whistling

Tara, I'm not growing any carnivorous plants but have been interested in looking at them. As mentioned in an earlier post, I visited a nursery located in Sebastopol, CA that specializes in carnivorous plants. It was fun photographing them and in doing so I discovered colors and patterns and textures that had me mesmerized... Blinking

I apologize for not knowing the ID's of these plants.... *Blush*

I agree I'm interested in looking but don't own any...I'm considering doing a bog pot in the shade this summer, and need to figure out what carnivorous plants would do okay in that environment. Thumbs up
Bev love those plants!! The sundew is amazing!

Those Sarracenias are gorgeous! Here is a picture of my tub of NOIDS that I keep on my plant shelves on my front porch to help control pests. I can see dead bugs inside when I look down the tubes. They are doing their job! I think that mostly ants and earwigs are finding their way inside.

My sentiment exactly, Bev! Hurray! And they were CHEAP! $2.98 each, except for the taller one. They have grown alot since I bought them in the spring. I want to get more next year! Hilarious!

Good question, Mindy. I don't have lizards here so I don't need to worry about protecting them. As for bees, I haven't seen them around the plants. But that could be because of location on my front porch where I don't keep flowering plants that would attract pollinators. I think this is a good question to ask your extension group at your local university. I did consider hazards to beneficials before placing my carnivorous plants there and didn't see a problem in my situation.

Also I think that the smell of these plants isn't necessarily an attractant for bees, wasps possibly but Connie, good advice to check with the extension service. Mindy if you do that, will you post here what the answer is! Thanks Thumbs up I tip my hat to you.
