Closer to home are the exotic Angel plants produced by Costa Farms and available in the big box stores. This page says if you have a question to email them so I would do just that and ask where you could find what you are looking for. If you arrow down on this page you will see a number of variegated ficus. Perhaps one of these is your mystery plant???

4732 views, 83 replies- still no luck!
Ardesia and Snarfie- thanks for looking for me- it's been a long time since I've been on the site, sorry for the delayed response. Ardesia, I have contacted Exotic Angel, both before the Costa Farms buyout and since. They list the variety in their library, but don't grow it, and I can't get anyone to verify if they even have a stock plant to propagate from if they wanted to. :-(
Snarfie- I'll email the Russians! (they have no price by the item, which may mean they don't have it, but I'll give them a try!)
Thanks so much to both of you!
Paul

Good luck! I hope you can find it somewhere. I had it in southern California in the early 70's. It certainly seemed to keep the variegation. I only had mine about 5 years, but it never reverted to green. We moved, and I didn't take any with me.

Thanks Plantmanager. I too had one in the 70's, and mine never reverted to green either. If they dry out in a pot they're toast, and it was a little too cold in Orange County I think for them to thrive year round outside...
The search continues!

That's a nice plant, Cheryl, and I have it, but it's not the trailing one he wants. I've kept looking too, but so far no luck.

This is my first reading of this post and this just might be what you are looking for. This Ficus and others were on the property when I purchased 20+ yrs ago and am always trying to get rid of with Roundup. The leaves are 2.5'' x 1''. Is this the one? I can get better photo when sun gets up more if needed.

Edit- More photos growing in very shady location...

I'm no pro but that doesn't look like it, Scott. The photo that Tofi posted is closer in my opinion. I had it back in the 70's and it was a great plant!

Tofitropic- that looks very much like what I'm looking for. The leaves generally are more of a matte finish, and one of the leaves in your pic looks almost shiny.
Do you have this plant in your collection?

It sure looks good! I don't know what it would take to be able to send one to the US from there. You might have to make a trip to Sumatra!

Yes, I imagine it would be very costly! I have friends who go diving in Indonesia. I'll have to see what they say about bringing back plants. They are big plant collectors.

Sorry I've been out of town for a few days, the fig is my plant, it is rampant grower compares to F pumila, was an old plant of mine, it is not popular also here, and I have never seen it in nursery for many years too. I have it grown on back yard walls and been forget about if most of years, except to trim it few times a year. The variegation quite stable. Yes it is not shiny on the surface, the one that is shiny is the new leaves, also the white part tends to be wider on old leaves or the vegetative part.
if one day you (or friend) have a plant to visit Indonesia, just give me a mail, I would be very happy to share it (Since I do not know how to send it overseas)
