Here's some pics I just took of this garden on front porch. Some losses from 2 really cold nights, about 48 hours below freezing total. I'm thrilled anything is still alive, and it looks like more stuff is fine than not. (The plant hanger things are stuck in there to keep the sheet above the plants, most of them anyway.)

What a nice collection of plants! Even the damaged ones look plenty good enough to come back well. Love the Dino's! Thumbs up I tip my hat to you.

TY! Glad to hear that. Luckily, most of those that look dead are plants I have other copies of elsewhere. Probably no hope for the little Iresine and the little Schefflera (formerly a Dizygotheca.) They're not sux, though!

I guess whatever's left this spring can be considered permanent (in this particular setting.) Mid-teens 2 nights in a row is worst-case scenario for here, and almost 20 degrees below an average low for Jan, coldest month. And 48 straight hours below freezing was shockingly rare. Not that these plants could take a whole winter of such temps, but when DRY, should be able to handle short periods of it.

DH made me a present, I guess in response to all of my 'whining' about how it's too windy and 'dangerous' to put the cool stuff outside with the plants. It has a lucite lid that can be put on in times of foul weather, and at night to keep critters out.

Not ready for planting yet, and needs some holes in the bottom, but I love it already!

This is one of two pairs of troughs flanking a walk at the Smith College Botanic Garden. I must have spent half an hour hovering around these taking pictures of all the little gems. If I'd been able to pair the labels with the correct plant I probably would have spent more time.

I'm new to fairy gardens. I'm working on my first one and I'm having a lot of fun creating it. I took a birdhouse from Walmart and covered the roof in pinecone petals and the sides are covered in tiny twigs. The little window is made from painted match sticks. And I painted the little curtains on the birdhouse before I glued the match sticks on. I only have 2 plants in the garden right now, a variety hens and chicks succulents I saved from my in-laws trash and a John Creech sedum. My 5 yr. old daughter and I are having fun looking for minis to include. She had added a tiny Tinkerbell figure and the chameleon from the movie Tangled. Here are a few pictures.

Thank you. Does anyone know how to divide the John Creech sedum? I know it will outgrow this container and will need to thin it out.

Nice garden Smiling

sedum is a very forgiving plant , I would just give it a trim back and then pot the trimmings , a little water and it will take root then you have another pant. Thumbs up

David, your miniature gardens are wonderful. I decided to post a few of my pictures of a few fairy gardens that I have made. Thanks to yours, I have plans for others.

This was taken on 6/25/2014. The tree stump I retrieved from a friend's fire pit in their yard. I am sure they didn't miss it.

This is the very first Fairy Garden that I made.

I bought this wheelbarrow at a yard sale on the last day of the sale when everything was half price and got it for $10. It then became a Fairy Garden. Now the plants have really outgrown it so in the spring I will need to do a little replanting.

I love your creations Jeanne.

They are uninhibited and lots of thought has gone into great placement of all your objects. I tip my hat to you. They are all well done and picture number 3 is fascinating. Every section is interesting and fun in them all.

Thank You for sharing, and I can see 2015 is going to be a big miniature garden year for you, me and others. Smiling

When I was out having to make many stage sets to showcase how some of my pots might look planted, I had to do something with the plants I used and decided to do a quick miniature garden in an old stoneware baking dish I had laying around. I had already drilled drainholes in it.

I had to go to Lowes to get a couple of pretty fresh Alyssums to play with but all the other tinies are from home. Sedum tips just set into the soil will stay looking the same and then grow; which I love that aspect from them. I also posted one of these pics in containers, but not these two.

I made the little bench from my pot material (hypertufa) but the little gnomes are in the garden area at Walmart in a box of many styles for 1.97!

Whoa! gnomes for less than $2.00!!!! Cool!

Where did you get your Elvis and Marilyn Monroe figurines? Those are so neat (for all us old-timers who were fans of these two stars)!

Here are some of my mini's I have done lately. The first one is a hobbit house I sold already. The second is a hobbit castle I made for my garden. I think something has already taken up residence in the castle. The cats and chickens have taken great interest in whatever is in there. Hilarious! Maybe a mote for the next one.
