Kathy, I hate to be the one to disillusion you, but that plant has been a poor disappointment to everyone that I know who has grown it. Nobody that I know of has ever seen it turn the least bit red.

Here's a photo of mine taken last week.

Maybe someone here has one that "Crimsons".

I get so disgusted at catalogs that don't honestly represent what they are selling. You see it more and more. For people just getting started in gardening it has to be very frustrating.

Hilarious! Chris, I think that no matter how long you've been gardening it can be very frustrating. Thumbs down Some here might remember our thread on DG when "Miracle" was first released. Every month we would all check in and report on the progress of our "miracle". Hilarious!

Well, try as we might, no one could report anything but a plain green Heuch, although occasionally someone would say they had some slight pink around the edges. Well, I saw this on Wednesday! I think the"miracle" gene must have been time released. This plant is about 3 years old.

Hurray! Hurray! It's true - it's a miracle! Maybe the secret is age.

It could very well be. That Mukdenia Crimson Fans is about 3 years old.

Another one of those really disappointing plants was Terra Nova's Begonia Metallic Mist. It looked just like the photo, in miniature. Nobody could get the darned thing to grow.

Heuch wise, I'm still waiting for some Orange on my Prince of Orange. It's past 3 years now. It's not a matter of getting a bad plant either. I never buy less than 3 of any one variety and often plant them in different locations in the beds.
I think that it's just bad breeding

Heuchs seem to be suffering the same fate as software. They release new varieties before all the kinks are worked out. I never buy the new varieties any more. I wait and see what others report on them.

Stormy - That looks like green maple leaves and I'm so glad I didn't order it. The reddish tint is what I found attractive.
I totally agree with your software analogy.

Well, I'm glad Kathy. I know they are expensive and I wanted to save you the $ and the dismay. Plant some pretty Purple Oxalis beside your green Heuchs. They are lovely together and will multiply nicely for you. Smiling

Amazing to see so many different colored heuchera. I've only seen the Silver/dark blue green type.

Susie, Heuchs are a parade of color for the shade garden. Every season each Heuch changes to a different color, some vividly different , others subtley so. it's so wonderful to look forward to each season's change. The only time they look ratty is in very late winter.

Hi - I have a 'Miracle' and this year (second) it looks Stormyla's pic.

I'm delighted to find a heuchera-lovers site! I've been growing them for about 5 years. My first was Palace Purple...then I went to my fave place, our local nursery, and found other new ones.

I have a ton of them, and have been buying them (a few at a time) as they are introduced, but I think I'm going to stick with the tried and true - and there are plenty of them out there - rather than hurrying into buying the newest ones. I also love heucherellas and have a couple tiarellas, too.

Here's a pic from my garden (I grow some in pots). Thumb of 2011-05-01/LinBar/8f9269

After several years, I am finally getting some really nice color on my Miracle. This one was from a co op several years ago and was started as a plug.
I tip my hat to you.

Hi Lin, Nice to meet ya! Smiling I have never (intentionally) grown any heuchs in pots but know that many people do. Which heuch is that lovely one down in the front of your photo?

Carolyn, Miracle must be a time released goodie!! Blinking Blinking

Hi Lin, welcome! Palace Purple was my first heurch too. Smiling

If it ever gets warm enough here for mine to start growing, I'll be anxious to see if my Miracle has color this year. I think it will be the 3rd year for it.

Hi Linda, You have a nice collection in your garden. Is that Berry Smoothie in your photo?

Carolyn - Miracle is looking gorgeous. Stormy - I dug up Prince of Orange as it was a big color disappointment. Fire Chief is another one I bought online because of the red color but it's more pink than red. (Or the plant was mistagged as it looks more like Berry Smoothie. )

Small division of Fire Chief on the left.

That's a beautiful collection Kathy. Thumbs up

That marvelous Marble is quite nice. I've never seen that one in person. I planted some Fire Chiefs last spring, but am not sure that they survived that horrible draught last summer.

I lost quite a few well established Heuchs to that heat and dryness. That's why I am so amazed that CalifSue does so well with her lovely Heuchs., Maybe it has to do with what they are used to from birth.

Hi Chris - Yes, they were taken a few days ago. The heux in the photo is tagged Mocha, but it doesn't look very Mocha to me.

Stormy, Marvelous Marbles has been the fastest increaser here. I bought 3 baby plants in 3" pots last year from Bluestone (I think) and they are HUGE. Usually with 3" pots or plugs I just stick them anywhere until they grow and then try and match them in the garden with a contrasting flower, which is when they get moved. I never expected MM to be so large already. I just went out to try and get a better pic of leaf coloring.

Thanks, Kathy. I wonder if it has Villosa breeding. How big is it now? Are the leaves themselves large? It has beautiful coloring. I've never had a problem with any of the Villosas or their descendents. Thumbs up

I have that same "Cranberry" one that Linda (LinBar) has -- I have lost the name so I cant remember what it is... but right now, even up here in the tundra, it has started growing!! And it is multiplying nicely! Hurray!
