mcash70 said:That is very disappointing for sure, but there is still hope. Remember I told you that I bought 2 bulbs, I just checked the date and it was Oct. 3rd and started them the next day, Limona got buds in about 2 weeks, Elvas just started showing a bud a few days ago, so that is over a month, the Exotic Star also has a bud so I am happy. Green Grin!

Margaret, My Peacock is just showing some new greens, but nothing like buds can be identified yet. So would you kindly post some pic of your Limona and Elvas's new green, bud, even flower stalks? Thanks

Oh Tarev, Thanks but... Grumbling
Margaret, thanks but don't get too late until the new grows become too big and "old" nodding

Now another day is gone and here comes good news with big trouble:
Thumb of 2014-11-12/fiat/985bd0
A new shoot (I hope it's a bud) came out under the old ponytail-like dry hair remnant! Since I planted this peacock in a tall glass container, the top of the PT (ponytail) is about 3" below the vase opening. I am wondering how am I to safely cut and remove the dry skins that block the new grows? The issues: 1. difficult deep access into the vase, 2. cutting w/o moving the bulb around (partially buried in rocks), 3. take out the cut dries after. Any suggestions? Thanks

Thanks, Tarev. I think I'll try to remove those dries any way (at least those just above the new grow).

Thanks for the pics, Margaret. I see your Exotic Star have a bud out from side. It also appears having broad greens "re-growing" from center? Will those grow into leaves or eventually fade off later b4 bloom?

It may grow with the bloom...or it may just wait till the bloom has faded..goes both ways..

Your welcome Fiat. I tip my hat to you. New leaves are just starting at center of Limona, none on the other two yet.

fiat: you definitely have a flower stalk (scape) starting at the side. A good clue to look for when you first see something poking out is to look for a tiny notch at the tip That indicates its a scape. The tip of the leaf poking out doesn't have the notch. Leaves normally grow out of the center. The scape can poke out at the center or from the side of the neck. Depends on the bulb. Some varieties bloom before there is much or even any leaf growth. Some varieties put up leaves before you see a scape starting. Again depends on the variety and sometimes even the particular bulb. I'm still waiting for my new bulbs to arrive.

Margaret: from your Limona pic I can only see the two stalks (tall and short) with nothing at center (maybe hiding between stalks?) Still wonder what's that broad greens at the center of your Exotic Star?

Tarev: in your 4th pic is that small grow on the side of large, long leaves a bud/scape? It seems like the bulb has not been in any rest/sleep and suddenly it decide to bloom?

Barbara: Thanks for the TIP. Ok, now exactly what does a "notch" look like? From M's Limona pic the two stalks have grown with a 'bulge' head on top. From her Elvas and Star pic they are just tips; where/how do I look for the "notch"? Same as in the 4th pic of Tarev's. I ask this question because I really don't see a "notch" at the tip of my Peacock's new grow. Thanks

Fiat, on the 4th photo it is a bud/scape forming. Sometimes you get lucky..after the first bloom stalk fades, it will form another ..jackpot!

Give your plant some time..it is still pushing the new growth out slowly. Smiling And I would really suggest do not trim anything or disturb that bulb. It is doing fine.

Fiat, I agree with Tavev, just leave it alone and I am sure you will get a bloom stalk in time.

There are now 2 leaves coming up in between the scapes of Limona. Green Grin!

The green on Exotic Star is where the green leaves were cut before shipping and or storage.

Fiat, The leaf-like parts on the outside of the scape (called spathe valves) protect the buds and separate and pull back as the buds enlarge. You should soon see the hint of a line going down the tip. That where the spathe valves butt up against each other. I can see the line in both Margaret's and Tarev's scapes. At the very tip, you may see a tiny notch, where the valves meet. It might take a few days to be obvious. Also the scape tip is much fatter than the leaf tip, since all the buds are inside. On some varieties, the tip of the scape has a little red on it. Within a few days, there will be very dramatic differences between scape and leaves.

Barbara, Thanks for the in-depth description on scape. Maybe today's development can id my peacock's new grow more clearly (see the pic below).

Growing Amaryllis bulb is so wonderful! Another day, another surprise: another new grow!

The 1st pic was taken more from side angle and the 2nd more from front. See the 2nd new tip appear above the 1st, now much longer one. From front view (2nd pic), both all look flat, thin and smooth. From side view (1st pic), the long one looks a little fat with many wrinkled lines and the short tip, though looks thin, yet barely reveals a bulged strip at center which seems to be the underneath bud tip. I do hope these two are to be all scapes.

As for my samba, the big guy, no luck at all -- still sleeping.
