Hi, thought I'd better check in before this thread gets toooo long. I live in the far southwestern corner of NYS, west of Nancy, west of almost everyone who has a NYS address. Many of you already know me and my cows, ok, Stan's cows, but I do garden, also. I have a lot of old garden roses, daffodils in spring and the rest is what I call cottage garden jungle. I'm at a writers' workshop this week, and when it's over, I will be very far behind, but hello to everyone.

Today the heat has gotten worse and the humidity is very high. Hope you are all keeping cool and your plants are surviving the lack of rain. I picked some veggies today and they look awful. I have been watering them but this intense heat is taking a toll on everything. I am too tired to even get into any touble today. You know the heat got to me.

I got an order for Black Pussy Willows I have on eBay and I can not ship them until the heat goes away.
At least the buyer agrees. They are to go to Virginia and she said it is hot there also.

Stay cool people. I am off to put laundry away. Grumbling I would love to have disposable clothing and bed sheets. ......hmmmmmmm.

Kathy, I have been propagating and shipping starter plants on eBay and DG Market Place for years. It started as a hobby. Take a look at my website if you want to know more about how it all began. LOL
I had opened a store on Cubits, but by the time I got it going, Dave moved all the garden things to here and I closed the store because no stores are allowed. I do enjoy it and I have shipped plants to almost every state of the USA. I recommend it to anyone. It is a lot of work, but so worth it.

Honestly, Allison, but here in NJ if you want to ship plants west of the Mississippi you must become a certified nursery.......costs $75 and you must have your Greenhouse inspected by the State once a year by State Inspectors. Then when you ship, you put a copy of your certification on the box. Also, If you ship West of the Mississippi you must ship bare root. Sounds complicated but not really. Just a pain in the butt to have the inspections. The regs are like everything else here in NJ. Too many and too much.
I did it because I ran out of room in the Greenhouse and put the plants up on eBay and started to sell them like crazy. I have a blast doing it too. I have time time and enjoy it.

I thought the bare root thing could be solved with a sponge plug.. no soil.. is that correct?

No soil is the rule. Not sure abo8ut a sponge plug. i would have to read the regs again.I do not remember them giving an alternative. I have no problem with the things I ship because I ship Priority and the way I pack them they are good to go and get there in two days. Many of my customers are from CA and WA as well as TX and all we do is coordinate the heat or cold weather and the customers try and be home on the day they are expected. Works out so well I have yet to have a bad ship West. Now, NY is the worst. They must run over things with trucks before they deliver them. Twice I have had plants arrive out of the pots, etc. but they all lived and the customer and I got a laugh out of it because of how I had it packed. It was almost impossible to have it messed up but they managed to do it. The ones going to NYC seem to make it safely, but anyplace outside of the city.........look out. Hey you NYeers what goes with your Post Offices?????

have to show you this... this companies shipping was so fantastic next to an elephant sitting on it.. nothing was going to happen.. they had each plant in either a paper bag or these cloth sleeves... rubber bands over the top of the plant.. and had the pot and each bag hot glued to the bottom and sides of the box.. wow was that impressive
