Thanks ladies!

JoJo: Your plants sure look happy hanging in the trees for the summer! I have a few hanging in backyard trees too; they do seem to enjoy the humidity and air circulation outside! Love the H. wayettii; I had a few hanging baskets of that one a couple of years ago but don't grow it anymore. I also had a very large H. compacta for a long time; that one was a mealybug magnet and during summer I was constantly fighting the white cottony bugs. I ended up losing the plant during an extremely cold winter.

Ivy: Your H. shepherdell is really pretty! It reminds me of one I have that I received in trade a few years ago as Hoya shepherdii. Mine is hanging outside in a tree somewhere ... hasn't bloomed in awhile but has peduncles on it. I just fertilized a lot of plants day before yesterday so hopefully I will see blooms soon.

tarev: I love your H. multiflora (Shooting Star); that is one of the most unusual and pretty hoya's I've seen. I had one a few years ago but it didn't do well for me and eventually went to hoya heaven. Smiling

Great growing everyone! Thumbs up

All the photo's look great.I love the way Hoya's bloom and there are so many different ones, each with a different bloom but all with 5 pointed star shaped blooms. They are the first plants i fell in love with when i started growing house plants about 3 or 4 years ago!!!

On the web site succulent-plant.com there is a page for Hoya's.It's a good web site for all succulents.I noticed under Hoya culture there was some information that might be of interest.
Ivy,It talks about your H.shepherdell under Hoya culture and there may be more information your interested in,I just noticed the plant because i had just been reading the posts here.It is the shepherdell & not the shepherdii you have right??
I haven't found a lot of good sites with correct information about Hoya's.It really helps growing them to know where they are found in the wild.I have found knowing that bit of information to really help with how much sun, water, humidity and how hot & how cold they can take it.

Here's the link: http://www.succulent-plant.com...
There's a good Q & A here: http://www.international-hoya....
Another web site i like is:http://www.hoyor.net/en/
I have been on these sites because every now & then i check to see if the DS-70 has been patented or named differently.I've had the plant for almost 3 years & i guess it's just going to be the DS-70.
A green thumb comes only as a result of the mistakes you make while learning to see things from the plants point of view!!

Thanks for the complement, would have very large plants if I had more space besides my home and office.
JoJo, I checked and saw the other H. Shephardii plant and spellings. I was told that what I have is a relative.

My hoya multiflora went temperamental this July, I do not know if it was feeling the heat up of our area or just adjusting when I moved it a different location in my house. It stopped making new leaves or any new peduncles. Happy to see it now back to blooming mode, buds forming actively once more, and always have to keep this plant sitting in water during this hot summer months.

My hoyas outdoors, just realized how thirsty they are in our very dry summer environment...gets daily watering and misting..doing fine, visibly growing, though no blooms yet. I am rethinking my understanding of succulence with the plants. During summer, I can get away with watering more, they need it in our area, especially since they are all in containers, dependent on me to provide their moisture needs.

Here comes the next blooms!!!

Tarev, have you ever grown H. lacunosa? In Tennessee it was one of my best bloomers, really neat scent although the flowers weren't tremendously showy. Anyway, my plant-friend here in Arizona has never gotten his to bloom and I'm wondering if it is the lack of humidity.... ?

Nope, have not grown H. lacunosa. You maybe right about the humidity thing, after all these are tropical plants. My plants outdoors have responded quite well to daily watering and misting. I was at first hesistant to give them frequent watering let alone misting because of their waxy, succulent leaves..I guess they like it that much during hot summer days.

I am just so pleased with H. shooting star...shoots much prominent now..I'll never get tired watching these blooms form Big Grin

My Hoya kerrii variegata is growing nicely outdoors..continuing its loop trying to grab on anything..poor Sans, the nearest thing it can find Hilarious! , ..and I saw this growth, looks like a peduncle, hopefully it is!! Okay, I have put a stick for the vine to hold on, after I took this photo. Big Grin

tarev: Great growing! Thumbs up You sure have the touch with Hoya multiflora, your plant looks very happy and healthy! I LOVE that Hoya but I just couldn't seem to keep it alive for very long. The "Shooting Star" blooms are one of my favorites ... so unique!

Sheryl: I grow H. lacunosa and it does like high humidity and although I grow all of my hoyas dry, the lacunosa seems to prefer not to dry out so much.

I've had a few Hoyas blooming the past two months; I never get tired of seeing their pretty blooms.

Thanks Lin! And you got the touch for all the rest of the hoyas Hilarious! Hurray! Hmm..so you grow them dry, because you are in Florida, being much more humid than ours..so maybe that's why in my area, being the reverse, hot and very dry already, so the plants wants to get more water for its humidity needs. LOL, we have too much humidity here! The older I get the more the humidity bothers me but I doubt I could get used to a hot, dry climate since I've lived on the east coast with humidity all of my 65 years. Our humidity runs from @ 60% to 90% depending on the time of year!

Humidity blues..or reds Hilarious! Hilarious! Right now our temp is 87F, humidity 30%..and that is about normal during daytime..at times humidity goes down 13% real fire danger weather! But this week is good, we get humidity up at night about 60 to 75% and forecast is cool for the whole week...will take all we can get..though a little rain will really be much much better!

We've been in the low to mid 90's for a week now, with humidity in the 80% - 90% range; open the door and you wilt! Blinking We're flying out to San Diego in a couple of weeks and they've been having temp's @ 75º days/65º nights ... I really look forward to the cooler temp's; I just hope the weather doesn't decide to change and be 90º the week I'm there!

Oh what fun! Yeah, San Diego weather is much better than ours most of the time...though sometimes nearer the coastline they miss the sun.

Wow, wow, wow. Lin, that's so great... I'm feeling like giving up on houseplants right now, at least the flowering ones. I have orchids that have never bloomed, hoyas that have never bloomed, Aeschyanthus (sp?) that has never bloomed.... and I've got a ZZ plant that blooms regularly. Go figure.

I just finished reading all 10 pages here. Took me all day, on and off. Lots of good information here as usual. Now I want a Shooting Star!

I just picked up a hanging pot on clearance@Lowe's, H.lacunosa. That's all I know. We are in the midst of our hottest temps and highest humidity and it seems to like it's home hanging under the arbor. Today it got a misty rain and 89*. I can't wait to see what it does for me!

We had a Hoya back when. It came hanging in a large sea shell. Not knowing what it was, I left it to it's own devices. I only found it it was a Hoya after it bloomed. And what a gorgeous bloom! It was long in coming that I replaced it and gave it better care than it's predecessor. IDK whatever happened to the plant? It has disappeared sea shell and all. It was hanging in the tree over the pond. Maybe when I drain the pond...?

Cheryl, you will love Hoya lacunosa: Wax Plant (Hoya lacunosa) The cute little blooms are extremely fragrant! I find it one of the easiest (for me) as long as I don't leave it in the sun (I've fried a many lacunosa by taking them out to water in the morning and forgetting them and later notice them sitting in full, blazing sun which has fried them!) You'd think I would have learned that lesson after the first time but alas I get busy and totally forget sometimes! I have two lacunosa's inside hanging in south facing windows and another on my screened porch on the south side of the house. Four or five years ago I had a half dozen lacunosa's inside and all of them began blooming at the same time. The fragrance is absolutely wonderful but it was so overpowering I had to move all but one plant outside.

I'll be curious to hear if you find your sea shell when you drain the pond ... I bet that's where it ended up, possibly by a squirrel ... or possibly a raccoon looking for a nighttime snack! I've had plants hanging in the trees and raccoons and squirrels will knock them down; some orchids went missing entirely while others were bits and pieces here and there beneath the tree!

Oy, Lin - you must be related to me.

But I completely agree with the scent of the lacunosa - and it was the easiest bloomer for me, right there with the shooting star.
