Some hoyas seem to drip more nectar than others. These photo's are from a few years ago, one is really out of focus but you can see that little lizards love to dine on dripping Hoya nectar:

Hi Blanca & Welcome!
I have had this guy for about 3 years now, and it never did much growing until this year. Bloomed for the first time. I'm just sorry to say that the fragrance was, well, stinky! Or maybe it was just my nose! Now, after blooming, it's growing like crazy!

Good to know that Blanca ..so I will just wait patiently for my Hoya to bloom whenever Smiling

My other Hoyas are also still outside too Cheryl, except for the Hoya multiflora which I have kept indoors. This has been a warm October, though temps slowly dipping overnight, but still manageable, no rain in sight..so will keep the other Hoyas there for now.

Incidentally, Hoya multiflora is making some buds again, it is liking the current temps..so let's see if it will manage to go all the way to a bloom. Last August it just blasted..haay Rolling my eyes.

Tara: That's a beautiful Hoya bloom! Is it Hoya pubicalyx or Hoya carnosa? I have a couple of carnosa's and pubicalyx and I've never detected any scent from them but I'm sure it's my nose. I have Orchid Cactus that are extremely fragrant to everyone but me; one I can detect a faint fragrance but the other ... nothing and my husband says they are very fragrant. I guess my nose is Confused

Tarev: H. multiflora is such a pretty one; I hope yours doesn't blast this time! H. multiflora is one that I never could keep alive!

Right now I have one Hoya in bloom ... H. nummularioides and the tiny little flowers have an awesome fragrance! This used to be a very large plant but almost died off completely. I moved the pot out in the yard and sat it on the ground beneath a large hibiscus shrub and forgot about it. When I was out weeding a few days ago I came across it and noticed blooms opening so I brought it inside.

Hi Lin! Thanks! This is H.carnosa 'Hindu Rope'. My first Hoya, and after it finally bloomed for me, I think I caught the "bug"…I have since added a H.kentiana that I found on the clearance rack at Lowe's, and I'm keeping my eyes open for more! Green Grin!

My H. Curtisii is starting to bud up again. I checked last year it flowered about mid November.

My H. Kentiana normally flowers in the summer - seemed to flower a good part of the summer and there were a lot of flowers.

It seems that different types flower at different times.

When i started buying Hoya's a few years ago, i was told that each would bloom at a certain time of year. There are fall & winter bloomers, spring, summer bloomers etc... but i think mine have a mind of their own.Maybe it has to do with the enviroment their in,this summer all of mine that bloom did so all summer but they did begin at slightly different times. My DS-70 started blooming in Oct. last year & bloomed until well into Feb.It started blooming about August this year & is still blooming but we had the coolest summer i've ever seen here. The dates on the pictures are correct.
Thumb of 2013-10-25/jojoe/de7253
Notice the nectar dripping from the blooms,i had to keep a towel under this one while inside.

I have either a H.'wayetti' or a H. 'kentiana' not sure which one it is,have had a really hard time getting an ID but it's one or the other. It started blooming around March.
The 1st picture was taken before it had been in much sun,the 2nd it had been in the sun.It gets a very pretty red color in the sun.

The blooms on this plant & the DS-70 look so much alike, the DS-70 is more red & the 'wayetti' is more maroon.

My H. carnosa K.P. started blooming inside in March but it only had 1 bloom until this summer it has slowly gotten a few more.

H. carnosa K.Q. didn't start blooming until july but also started with only 1 bloom and has stopped blooming since temp's cooled off.

The last one i have that bloomed in July this summer is H. 'compacta'
Thumb of 2013-10-25/jojoe/423b99 Thumb of 2013-10-25/jojoe/8e54c0

This summer the Hoya's kind of told me what they need to bloom.I've never had that many blooming at once but it rained ,the temp's stayed in the mid-low 80's and the humidity has been off the charts.I guess that's as close to tropical weather as it will ever get here.

I do have a H. 'chelsea' & 'brevialata' that hasn't ever bloomed for me??? Sad

Sorry for all the rambling on and such a long post but i got going about my Hoya's & got carried away.I haven't had a chance to show off the blooms to anyone at all.
