When i started buying Hoya's a few years ago, i was told that each would bloom at a certain time of year. There are fall & winter bloomers, spring, summer bloomers etc... but i think mine have a mind of their own.Maybe it has to do with the enviroment their in,this summer all of mine that bloom did so all summer but they did begin at slightly different times. My DS-70 started blooming in Oct. last year & bloomed until well into Feb.It started blooming about August this year & is still blooming but we had the coolest summer i've ever seen here. The dates on the pictures are correct.
Notice the nectar dripping from the blooms,i had to keep a towel under this one while inside.
I have either a H.'wayetti' or a H. 'kentiana' not sure which one it is,have had a really hard time getting an ID but it's one or the other. It started blooming around March.
The 1st picture was taken before it had been in much sun,the 2nd it had been in the sun.It gets a very pretty red color in the sun.
The blooms on this plant & the DS-70 look so much alike, the DS-70 is more red & the 'wayetti' is more maroon.
My H. carnosa K.P. started blooming inside in March but it only had 1 bloom until this summer it has slowly gotten a few more.
H. carnosa K.Q. didn't start blooming until july but also started with only 1 bloom and has stopped blooming since temp's cooled off.
The last one i have that bloomed in July this summer is H. 'compacta'
This summer the Hoya's kind of told me what they need to bloom.I've never had that many blooming at once but it rained ,the temp's stayed in the mid-low 80's and the humidity has been off the charts.I guess that's as close to tropical weather as it will ever get here.
I do have a H. 'chelsea' & 'brevialata' that hasn't ever bloomed for me???
Sorry for all the rambling on and such a long post but i got going about my Hoya's & got carried away.I haven't had a chance to show off the blooms to anyone at all.
