Lol.....love the recipe.
I grow H. lacunosa and it doesn't smell like cinnamon....unfortunately.

Bummer. Although, maybe this is a different lacunosa variety?

I think it's probably just Logee's propaganda. I've got several different varieties and they all pretty much smell the same. It's amazing the liberties some of these companies take with descriptions and names. Not just with Hoya's but with plants in general.

I won the 3 Hoya's on the raffle and they are on the way to my house now!!!! I am sooo excited to see which ones I got because I have seen such beautiful plants here on ATP!!! I don't have any Hoya plants now. I had one a few years ago but I lost it in a move. So I can't wait to see what I get!!! Hurray! Hurray!

I'm excited for you! I wanted a hoya so bad I couldn't stand it, so I purchased some from Jodi at SRQ Hoyas. If I win a future raffle, I will have to hope that she's offering selections I don't already have or I will have to choose a different item to win, LoL! Smiling My Hoyas are supposed to be here Thursday, I can't wait! I got the bundle, so I have no idea which ones I'm getting, but I love surprises!

In the meantime, I happened upon two clearance hoyas at Lowe's and Wal-Mart today. SRQ's hoyas were still, technically, my first hoyas though, since I purchased those on Sunday. Big Grin

Congratulations to you both Hurray!

I was so thrilled at the possibility of a cinnamon scented hoya, darn!
I have only ever smelled the carnosa I have, which I really quite enjoy.
My new little babies are montana, waymaniae, lacunosa 'Ruby Sue', and wayetii --someday, I hope to be able to report that I like their fragrance as well Smiling

That's awesome! I don't even know how big these will be. I sure hope they are mature enough for a bloom whenever that is! Lol.

I think you were sent plants, right? My understanding, based on what I read on the website, is that a plant will be multiple cuttings in a pot. Some cuttings/cultivars may take off faster than others. I know some people in this thread waited years for some of their hoyas, and others have experienced same-year blooms. Shrug!

This is what she says about plants:

"One or more cuttings growing in a tiny pot with a strong root system.
If you're lucky...your plant will also have an active peduncle!"

Woohooo! Finally! Very first bloom more evident now for my Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen' that certainly took quite some time to start opening..still ongoing..hope it continues on. What a wonderful way to start this chilly sunny morning Hurray! I like this stage where I catch the blooms open, dramatic unfolding!

Btw, congrats to all the new hoya owners! It is a fun journey to grow them! Big Grin

@Tarev , I've found a place or two on the Internet that say that Carnosa 'Rubra' is the same as Krimson Queen/Krimson Princess/Krimson Prince. Do you know if that's true? Can you post a picture of your leaves or confirm for me if mine looks like it might be a Krimson Queen? It's an Exotic Angels plant but it didn't say which type, so I went to their website and determined it's probably what they call "Carnosa 'Rubra'"...which appears to be Krimson Queen to everyone else??? Shrug! (I will, of course, know more if it ever blooms...)

My Hoya carnosa 'Krimson Queen' makes different leaf colors, not all throughout. To be honest I do not know what triggers it to go crimson. My hunch was our extreme heat this year and our very dismal humidity, even though I already have it in shade, oftentimes it is just cream and green variegation, or all cream Shrug!

You may have to compare with those with better humidity conditions how their Hoya KQ grows its leaves.

Thank you, Lin! Do you detect a fragrance on this one? If so, does it really smell like chocolate, like they say?

I had Krimson Queen and Krimson Princess for many years and thought they were the same plant until someone on another fourm who grew and sold hoyas for a long time told me that one was Krimson Queen and the other Krimson Princess and explained the leaf coloration.

I see Exotic Wax Plant (Hoya carnosa 'Picta') has leaves with white centers and green margins too. It look a lot like Krimson Princess but maybe the leaves are a bit pointier and smaller in size?

And Wax Plant (Hoya carnosa 'Variegata') has the same leaf coloration too. I see two photos in this database entry that appear to be the variegated Hindu Rope.

Both of my plants ended up reverting to solid green leaves so I had no idea which was which so they just both became Hoya carnosa. Green Grin!

LOL, I've never detected any fragrance on my carnosa blooms but I'm sure it's just my nose. While I say I have a strong sense of smell it seems that it's only for not so good fragrances. Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing Rolling on the floor laughing

I definitely detect the wonderful fragrance of H. australis, H. lacunosa, H. nummularioides and a few others but for some reason I've never noticed any fragrance with my Hoya carnosa or Hoya pubicalyx ... and I think I remember someone saying Hoya carnosa and Hoya pubicalyx are closely related species and that the blooms are indeed fragrant ... so evidently it's just my sense of smell is off when it comes to those particular blooms. Green Grin!

I grow the supposedly extremely fragrant Queen of the Night (Epiphyllum oxypetalum) and Zig-Zag Cactus (Selenicereus anthonyanus) and Peruvian Apple (Cereus repandus) yet I don't detect much fragrance at all with their blooms. My husband is always astounded that I can't smell much of anything when they are blooming.
