I'm sorry for asking, but anyone has 'Savannah Sunset' they can share with me ? Saw it in Facebook and it sure is gorgeous....
Thank you and have a wonderful rest of the week...
Hi Java. I have Savannah Sunset -- and have shared it with many people. It's a wonderful Iris. I should be able to share a rhizome this season -- send me a tree-mail with the name of SS in the subject line, and give me your address. I lost the ability to add to my trade list when I got a new computer this winter. This is the best way that I have figured out for a reminder of what I promised to whom!!

javaMom said:Hi everyone, I lost quite a bit Iris due to 2 thunderstorms with high winds and hail, but here is my Dutch Iris...
So pretty! I planted some last fall that started coming up early with our mild winter in the Northeast and they were completely eaten to the ground several times by a rabbit I guess Dutch irises aren't in the cards for me.
Am sorry about your dutch Iris, my enemy lately have been the snails....they ate everything..any new growth came up they ate it...I can't stand it...try different thing...At present I put lettuce, brocolli pieces, fruits etc in my flower beds and they ate those and hopefully stay away a bit from my stuff...I tried beer, but when it rains the beer can got filled with water...I guess I have to give in and buy the snaill remedy stuff...
JaveMom...I too am fighting the battle of the snails. They had a population explosion. I was trying to manage them by hand-picking them (if it's a few I squish them, if it's a lot I put them in a plastic bag, tie it closed and throw them in the trash. At times I had a bag big enough to fill a shoebox! I finally broke down and bought a huge bottle of Sluggo. I have a dog so I wanted to use the non-toxic option. I'll spread it when I know it's not going to rain.
Does the Epsom salt around the plant work with sails also? We just sprinkle Epsom salt lightly around plants that the slugs are attacking and the stop because it kills them when they slide over it. I would think it would work with snails also. Maybe someone else has experience with snails but it might be worth a try. It's a cheap fix if it works.
Makes sense...salt would dehydrate them. I just would'nt want to add too much salt to the soil and groundwater by repeating it too often. Maybe I'll do a small test area.. I have plenty of infested areas to try out different methods!
We had a snail population as well and every time I have put down salt, it has rained hard!! We didn't have any at the new place and now I am seeing them. Think I brought a bunch of eggs in the potted iris
Gardening is learning, learning, learning. That's the fun of them.
You're always learning !
