Anna, do tell more how clivia grows in your area...love those multiple bloom stalks! How long does the blooms last typically ? What temps is it growing in right now. I see it seems to be in a greenhouse. I know this plant loves shade, that is why I really want it, a shade lover that blooms well even in shade and quite drought tolerant. Did you have it as a mature plant already or did you start it much younger?

It grows in a large pot, which, in all actuality, should be bigger. LOL I think it is a 14 or 16 inch, not sure. I will look when I go up to the g'house later today. I bought it, if memory serves, as a tiny plant from a mail-order place. Can't remember where, it's probably been 10 years ago. The blooms last about a week or so and it blooms while in the greenhouse. I don't remember it ever blooming after I've put it out in late May or early June.

I know this is a deviation from the thread, but I also have a Bird of Paradise in a 20 inch pot that has 6 bloom stalks right now, one of them being a double. (2 flowers on the same stalk).

I have the thermostat set about about 56 right now, usually at 58. The backup heater is set at 50.

Nice cool temps! Maybe that is enough to be its dry cool temp Smiling

When I repotted my Clivia recently from its 1 gallon container..omg..so hard to remove it!!! Had to destroy the container..which is okay it is just that typical plastic one gallon pot. Hey, when you do decide to repot...take photos of the roots okay?? I am just curious just how much roots your big plant has now. Big Grin

If you want to see a mass of roots, here is my BOP when I took it from a 16 to a 20 inch pot. (yeah, yeah, I'm REALLY hijacking the thread now). A thousand pardons. Green Grin! I promise not to do it anymore.

I told you I do not mind! Wow! That is truly one healthy and robust root system for your Bird of Paradise. That certainly looks like how fat the roots are of Clivia. Big fat noodles! Hilarious! Hilarious!

Just a Dec update..been giving this amaryllis its dry rest, but I know there is some slight moisture below from the gel beads. Just saw this new growth on the left side ..too early to tell..whatever it is, happy to see something new! Hurray!

Wonderful, Tarev. Did this one have bloom last year (Spring 14, Winter 13, or Spring 13)?
