No, Jo Ann is correct. We don't all age at the same rate. Even though I am younger then you all but quite a few juniors look far older then me. By juniors I can go way down to 20 yrs. It depends upon ones outlook on life also. Some married young and became grandparents by fifty. Having grandchildren makes a person feel older while a older person having small children just cannot afford the luxury of feeling older.
Regards,
Arif.

I believe staying active as a gardener really benefits you, the key word being*active*. I have been recovering from a bad rolled/sprained ankle these past 4 weeks, resting in a recliner all day, I have never felt so old and like a slug, no energy. I feel like I am deteriorating in all my muscles. I need to get back out in the garden!
I became a grandma at 39, 2 weeks before I turned 40 technically. He just turned 14. Blinking
My third one is due in 4 weeks. Green Grin!

My grandsons are the people that keep me young. They're always wanting to go somewhere or do something fun. We play chess, swim, play wii games, walk thru the trails here, garden, and bike together, among other things.

My grandchildren are all over 20. One is married since last December 2011. The thought I might be a great-grandmother just horrifies me.I dont think I am ready.

Sue: you have all my sympathy.I had surgery to repair the basal joint in my thumb. I suffered thru panic attacks after one week of having the heavy bandage on.I cant imagine a cast like yours.
I visualized my new iris blooming when ever I got low and that helped. Hang in there. It takes a lot of energy to stay positive when confined.

The oldest people I know are all bright active travelers and interested in many things not necessarily gardening. They all agree being active is what keeps then going.

No cast Jo Ann, just had to stay off it, too painful. I have just in the last 4 days been able to put careful weight on it so now I am down to one crutch for balance.

Smiling Maybe over there but here grandparents have to behave like grandparents but any way in some way you are correct. There can be another outlook on it also. As gardeners our vices are plants and I do not think this vice does much damage to either our thinking or physical health as much as some of the others. I just do not get enough time to think about other things. People do drink themselves to an early grave. Then there are other things. Our crowd that we hang out with plays a role. Live a dangerous life, die an early death. I suppose mental outlook of a person plays a major role.

Arif.

I am a couple short of 60 and Hurray! no grandbabies. I think being called a grand-something or the other 24/7 would have made my mind behave like a grand-something or the other. Just now only a springchickeny in mind father. Physically, now that is something else Whistling .

Actually, the grand babies have no idea of age and insist that you join them in their youthful activities, which helps us to think young.

and behave mature and wise with a stiff upper lip from sunrise to sunset. Here, there is no pressure to behave like a wise old granny or grand daddy. Just a poor immature young daddy Whistling .

Ha!!! Grandparenting isnt so bad. The grandkids have parents who are responsible for them.
Many of us here live in widely dispersed areas,we hardly see the grandchildren for months on end.

That will be me most likely, we live in such a mobile society. Rarely do kids stay in my rural area. They seek to make a life where more opportunities exist.

Grandchildren keep you young and so does gardening.
The two, go well for me, as I spend time introducing the children to gardening.
I have grandchildren from age 3 weeks to 27 years.
It keeps me busy and active just keeping up with all of them.
Next week I am going to meet the newest one, and I am going to teach his brother and sisters how to do winter sowing.
I think that I will take poppy seeds and we can use Joanne's cloche method too.

I do agree that as one ages then it is necessary to change how we do things.
I try to do more direct sowing and less transplanting----except in containers.

Sounds great, Caroline. My 6 year old grandson just sent me a letter telling me that he can't wait to start planting again. He loves to dig and save the worms for fishing also and just loves seeing the colors that grow from the seeds and bulbs that he plants. He brings his plantings as gifts for his teachers on special occasions.

Sorry that I am late to the granny conference. *Blush*
Was busy outdoors staying active. Big Grin

Sue, we had our first grandchild when I was 39 1/2. See, I am getting younger, I'm back to seeing years in fractions. Whistling
I believe staying active and thinking positive helps to keep us feeling younger. I am thinking very positively that I am getting younger with each day. Hurray!

We thought we were all through having grandchildren, here I am in my 70th year with a soon to be 2 year old grand daughter. Much bigger shock to Kevin and Samantha. Big Grin

We are working on great grandchildren now, positively won't be any more grandchildren for our 2 daughters and 2 sons. We are not at 5 great grandchildren from out two oldest children.

Jo Ann and Sue, good time to be going through the healing process, before the really nice weather gets here. Hurray!
