Second flush on Molineux. I had pruned it back about 2 feet after it finished it's first flush and it's 6-7 feet again and more apricot/peach this time. Love it when it's this color!

And this is one branch on Helen Hayes getting ready to burst into bloom, also it's second flush. Look at all those buds! Lovey dubby

I'm always delighted by the new views I see when I look upward. I guess I don't do it very often. Big Grin

This view reminds me of a layer cake. The bottom layer is the top of one of my yellow Lady Banks roses. This "once-bloomer" always produces a summer rebloom in my garden. Nothing like the spring show, but definitely welcome nonetheless. The middle layer is a Silk Mimosa, and the top layer is a Black Walnut.

I still find it remarkable that you grow so many things within range of that huge black walnut. Smiling

Oh my goodness, I'm such a dunce- I thought it had been really quiet around here, but I'd forgotten to watch the July thread!

Margie, what wonderful photos!

Zuzu, I love your layer cake photo!

It has been such an unusual summer here, significant rain almost every day. The roses have loved it and grown very well, and most have tried to bloom quite a bit, but Japanese beetles have devoured many before they could even open. The beetles are leaving me some to enjoy and haven't totally devoured anything, so I'm pretty happy with this growing season. Japanese beetles are strongly attracted to yellow blooms, and of course have really gone for Golden Fairy Tale. Interestingly they have not been going for Julia Child. J.C. was one I'd had for a year that hadn't increased in size, and I moved her this spring. She has responded well to the move and is doing well. I'll post some photos in the next day or so.

This year hasn't been bad for roses here. We had lots of rain in June. There were several hot, hot days in July, but nothing too bad. There are also some bugs around, but I haven't noticed any serious infestation or damages. Not bad at all. I just wish I have a bigger garden to pack more roses.

My that looks beautiful!! I just spayed my roses again today as I do every two weeks. Keeps the blackspot away!!

There are a few blooms here and there but I noticed buds everywhere. So around the beginning of August I will have another strong flush of blooms.

Thank you Rita.

I don't spray but try to use roses that are disease resistant. After ten years, I figure out how my roses bloom, so they are planted accordingly. They are not the most sophisticated roses, but they are happy where they are and love to bloom. Red Flower Carpet and Red Meidiland roses are rarely without blooms. Once when they start in June, they will not stop till November. So they are planted at two corners (Red Flower Carpet and Red Meidiland) and one more Red Flower Carpet somewhere in the middle of the border. Even when the other roses are taking a break, these three provide color and constant bloom.

Please post pictures when yours start the second round.

Jasmine, that bed is stunning!

I couldn't be more pleased with the Kordes roses I've added this year. This has been the season to test a rose for blackspot resistance, rain almost every day, high humidity, and quite a few hot days too. No chemicals or spraying of any kind, and the leaves look beautiful.

Neal, we've had the same conditions here, with most of the rain falling at night. My Kordes roses are clean! So are my drift and Fairytale series, and the Austins. Once the temps go back under 100, I'll feed them all, but I have not sprayed at all for anything. The beneficial insects are doing their job, and spacing the roses farther apart helps too. Mixing other plants in with the roses helps lessen the power of insects and disease, I believe.
Remember that children, marriages, and flower gardens reflect the kind of care they get.

Heat only seems to make it worse that I've noticed, but we don't get a lot of days of 100F temps. Seems it would like the dewy nights though...

Planted this past Spring. Bloomed for the first time here but well worth the wait.
