My first post. I am so glad to be on this wonderful forum....

Few photos of my roses....all my roses are grown 100% organically. Most of them are in pots.

They are lovely and I hope you'll add them to the database. You can import them into the database directly from this thread, if you wish. Just click on the photo to enlarge it, clock on "Associate with a plant in the database," and follow the instructions. When the proposals are approved, the photos will enter the database.

That Belle Epoque bud is quite special. Beautiful photo! I'm also really happy to see your Black Prince photos. We didn't have any photos of that one in the database before you added yours.

zuzu, I am glad you like the photos. Photography is another passion of mine. I usually spend an hour with my roses early morning and that is the time most of these photos have been taken. Posting a few more.....
All these roses are being grown in a hot climate where in May and June, temps range between 100*F to 115*F.

A strong grower that performs well in hot climate. Prefers dappled shade. Nice moderate fragrance and lot of blooms whole year. Size of blooms and fragrance reduces during hot months.

A prolific bloomer with strong old rose fragrance. Retains fragrance even during hottest days. Does well in dappled shade.

Moderate fragrance. Lots of blooms. Performs well in heat. In high temps (105 to 115*F) when blooms of most roses fry out in few hours, St Swithun blooms last almost whole day.

A rose of stunning beauty and fragrance when it's below 90*F. Bloom size drastically reduces over 105*F, so does fragrance. Growth retards too. Needs a shady location in very hot weather.

Delightful mango nectar fragrance. In hot weather, blooms fry out in 3-4 hours. Vigorous grower.

Are you growing all of them in containers? It's no wonder, of course, because they would benefit from being moved into the shade on those very hot days.

I see you have Tom Brown, one of my all-time favorites. I also see you have William Morris, a rose I've always wanted. It has never been offered by any of my local nurseries, so I once ordered it from an on-line nursery and received Royal William instead. Royal William is a nice red hybrid tea, but it's a far cry from William Morris.

zuzu, I have over 70 roses in pots and they are doing well though surely not as well as the one's in ground. As you said, shifting potted roses in shade / cooler locations is the only advantage of growing roses in pots. I don't prefer growing roses in pots but all spaces in ground are already filled with roses so any further addition can only be in a pot.

Fragrant Charm (Royal William) is nice HT but not very prolific in my hot weather. In Islamabad climate, own root roses do the best followed by those grafted on Rosa centifolia root stock. Dr Huey and Multiflora root stocks do not do that well in my climate and unfortunately, my Royal William is on a multiflora root stock. William Morris is very vigorous on own roots in my climate.

Tom Brown has a unique shade and in cool weather, very nice fragrance too. The bush is so compact.... love this rose.

best regards

My Ebb Tide is always blooming. Very nice strong scent in cooler months but bloom size, shade and fragrance is affected during hot spells. It keeps blooming though, non-stop

Rosa centifolia isn't one of the rootstocks used commonly here. The one used in the hottest zones here is Rosa fortuniana. Luckily for me, Dr. Huey and R. multiflora work well here.

zuzu, yes I am aware the preferred root stock in hottest regions of USA is Rosa fortuniana but here in Islamabad surroundings, Rosa centifolia is the most common root stock, followed by Rosa damscena and Rose Edouard. Few nurseries also graft roses on Gruss an Tepltiz. Rosa damascena and centifolia are being grown here since many centuries and are like sort of native roses. centifolia and damascena root stocks are know to be excellent performers in very hot as well as very cold climates (up in the north we have climate similar to zone 5 & 4, few places falling in zone 3 also while the south is like zone 9 & 10).

That's fascinating. Our rootstock choices seem so limited in comparison.

Thanks Seedfork. I am glad you like the photos. I see a composting icon in your badges. Great. Since last year I am preparing a rose specific compost for my roses using kitchen waste.... still experimenting but I guess I have been able to workout a reasonably balanced NPK suited to my roses ( Equal N & K, reasonable Ca and just enough P & Mg, also including trace elements like Zn, Fe, Cu, Bo, S etc). So far my roses are doing very well with that homemade compost. I stopped spraying chemical pesticides & fungicides many years back and since last year, stopped using all synthetic fertilizers too. All my roses are 100% organic but that is a topic for discussion in a different thread.

best regards

Very large size (5-6 inches) fragrant blooms of stunning beauty that open up orange / orange pink and transform to salmon pink ruffled petals with yellow center and prominent stamen. Bush is upright and very disease resistance. Grows upto 7-8 ft in warms weather (but stiff upright stems, doesn't behave like a climber). I am very impressed with this rose..... no wonder Peter Beals named it after his mother.
