I wasn't always a sans fan, but have recently "come on board". Well...it was a slow process I suppose. It was the one plant I bought many many years ago and has survived some serious neglect and all manor of growing conditions...including walkout-basement apartment. It is now starting to rebound yet again.

I was researching options for a planter for the work lunchroom (the herbs they had didn't get watered and died within the first week...ugh...but why waste a good pot and window?!?!) and a shorter Sans came out as the top runner for my situation.

So I spent some time today searching for a medium high Sans. In my search I came across one (in Walmart) labeled as a "glow in the dark" plant...so strange. Anyone else ever see such "glow in the dark" plants? (I didn't buy one to test it out...) Blinking

I did end up finding some medium Sans at Rona that were just what I wanted...now if only I had remembered to get the soil too! Doh!

There was a discussion of the glow in the dark Sans (I hope it is okay to share another gardening website's topic).

http://forums.gardenweb.com/fo...

A guy from Costa Farms discussed it as well (I believe they are the ones who came up with the idea).

I think companies should leave plants alone. Painting and gluing things on them to attract attention and make a buck... I find it kind of sad.

Isn't that usually how it works? You have to go back once or twice because you forget something. At least that happens to me. I blame it on plant distraction. Hilarious!

Ah ok...makes a bit more sense now. In my head I was imagining some sort of Frankenstein plant that had its DNA altered so it glowed....but a spray on makes way more sense! (why didn't I think of that? Doh!) Either way really glad I didn't waste my money. I'm happy with the ones I got. And finally managed to find somewhere that had cacti soil in stock! Man the garden centers are dismal right now...I expect right after Christmas would have been a better time finding plants and soil (once the Christmas stuff gets moved out!).

Hilarious! Well, that makes sense to me, they have created DNA altered fish that glow in the dark. Did you see that picture of the stuff that lady peeled off of her Sans? Yuck!

Yeah, it is pretty dismal this time of year. I also had to grab some cactus soil a few weeks ago and was hoping someone had it in stock. I think March is when they start getting more stuff in (at least around here).

I only have one Sans right now, but they do make for some easy peasy plants. Smiling You should show us some pictures of yours. I know I'd like to see your Sans.

I saw some really freaky Poinsetta's I have no idea why they think sprinkling sparkles and painting them blue and purple makes them attractive. Thumbs down

Anything for a buck. And then when half dead, big discount. So where's the profit?

I had one just like that. I lost the variegation on the new growth. Don't know why? Yours looks ok on the pup to the right.

Sometimes the new pups have no variegation, then when they mature the variegation develops.

Sucks when it reverts. Fortunately mine seems to be a great clone with yellow variegation. Yours has white or is it the camera?

The color of masoniana is white. Yellow would be nice also. I heard that growing conditions could make a difference in determining the color. Mine is kept in deep shade and T-8 fluoresce bulbs in winter.

I have seen both yellow and white var here, so I think they are distinct. The yellow is more common.

I've just discovered this thread. I've always loved Sansevieria, I had quite a collection when I lived in Maine and now that I'm back in the UK I have a fair few plants. My favourite at the moment is (I think) S pearsonii which had been on the windowsill in my office for a few years - it's been knocked off by a colleague and lost compost, so I brought it home a few weeks ago to repot it. It's now about to flower and has 2 new offsets showing. I'm particularly thrilled as I grew it from a single leaf cutting.
