Mono- is easy, means one. If the below is correct, -carpic means, literally, bearing fruit.

The dying part seems to have been ascribed to the term monocarpic, but isn't part of the literal translation. The amalgam of what I've read suggests that each rosette can only make a bloom once, after which it won't make more blooms or grow new leaves, just pups., which fits with the literal translation. Does that fit with what you've observed, Stush?
Has anyone seen new growth or a repeat bloom from a same individual Sans rosette after it bloomed? I'll tie a ribbon on the next one that blooms & observe. Or maybe an earring... Someone with ground plants that don't get dug up would be in a good position to observe too.
