Last year I bought Give Me Eight. The seller had had it listed for weeks in a row, and every week someone bought some. Someone on this sight was one that bought some and posted a nice picture. When I got mine, it sounded like the above, completely and totally dried out and very very small. I hadnt paid much for it, but was still upset about it. I figured the seller dug them all at once, and mine sat out for weeks, before I was the loser who got it.
As far as seeds, people do send bonuses, but I rarely plant them. I only have so much room and I want to plant the ones I ordered. Every now and then, the bonus seeds will be flakes in the bag, just old seeds that got crushed in transit. I never have gotten those from the main people I buy from. Ive never gotten less than I ordered.

I am in the process of digging and shipping orders today ( for shipping tomorrow) and will dig Sunday ( for shipping Monday.) This year, I decided to give extra fans of the plants people ordered instead of bonus plants. In part, that is because it is what I prefer to receive but it is hard to figure out what someone might ( or might not) want. Hopefully that will be OK with all the buyers. No one has complained so far, and I believe it was stated on the auction when it ran. As a seller, I try to send plants that I would want to get.

From the standpoint of a seller:
very seldom have I done this, but this one buyer kept bidding on and winning my plants over a 2-3 year period. . He NEVER gave feedback but he kept on bidding and ordered probably at least 30-40 plants. He seldom communicated either. . One time ( he was in IL) he asked me to mail the order to an address in FL, which was not listed as his LA address. I did so, but then was very frustrated when the package was listed for days as "Attempted delivery" and he didn't bother to pick the package up for at least a week. Never heard a word from him about this but figured the plants couldn't have been in great condition after sitting in a Post office in FL for a week or more. So finally, I decided to block him from bidding on future auctions. So he wrote this spring and wanted to know why I had blocked him, as he wanted to bid on some of my plants. Grrr!!!

The best recourse if you have a problem is to go directly to the seller. Anyone worth their salt will try to make it right. If not resolved, then go to Mike Longo.

Julie, I am in agreement that I like to receive extra fans of what I have ordered and have decided that that is the best way to give bonuses, too. You don't know what the buyer all ready grows and what they may like to have. If they order a daylily, then they must like it. Of course, we cannot send extra fans of each daylily but can of some of the ones sold which will equal the bonus value. We are expecting a club from AL in early June to visit our garden with members preordering the daylilies that they want, so we can have them dug before they arrive. I plan to offer them the option of extra fans where possible or to select a daylily (ies) of "X" value as the bonus from the sale list they will be provided. I am also toying with the idea of giving them a 10-20% discount for coming as a club tour. They will be going to one other garden about 30 miles away (Bill Waldrop's).

This is totally off subject, but are you guys going to be on the National tour in 2015? ( I know Bill and Diana's garden will be, and didn't know you were that close to them.)
Your ideas for bonuses with the garden visitors, especially if they are on a club tour, is great incentive. People will love those options and it will be nice if they can order in advance so you can have everything dug before they arrive, which makes a huge difference. Not much fun to dig when you have visitors. My neighbor came over today when I was digging, and I was embarassed for her to see me. I usually wear white tops ( that can be bleached) and today was wearing an abundance of dirt, as usual! Oh well, she should be used to it.

Yes, many times the bonuses sent here end up being donated to club or regional auctions, as I don't have much room or sometimes already have the plant.

Yes, we will be one of the gardens on the 2015 National tour. We are about 35 miles north of the Waldrops and less than 5 miles from I-75. We will be on the 2014 Region 5 Spring Tour and have been an AHS Display Garden since 2009.

Hey, Susan, I may lose some money on the shipping, but I like not having to worry about trying to guess what bonus plant a buyer would want. My good friends here on ATP may evn find some of their plants with extra fans as well as reduced shipping. A seller can't always send extra fans, especially on the newer expensive plants, but I also like getting those extra fans. I have received some wonderful bonus plants through the years and some real bow wows. It is so hard for me to throw plants away, so I usually planted them somewhere. I no longer have the room for plants I really don't want.

You are so right! Why get stressed out? I never complain about bonuses, we can always trade. I only throw away the very rust prone. I don't want to take a chance on infecting the whole yard. If you have any bow wow's that you can't see throwing away then toss it in someone's box!~ woof, woof. Hilarious!

OHHHHHHHHH I just looked at my Auctions and found there were two wonderful buyers that I forgot to give positive feedback. I'm in the doghouse!!! I'm also very very sorry. I personally would appreciate a kind jog for my old mind when I forget something like this. So, if there is anyone else I owe feedback to, please remind me. Or owe anything.

I tried really hard to give prompt feedback when I was selling my seeds because I had several new folks buyng and they really needed to get that feedback number up. But, I sure got lax on some of the last ones to send out. I promise to try harder Rolling my eyes.

Thanks Shirlee! I got an email from Alron2 a couple of days ago and he had crop failure and will not be able to send my JACQUELINE KENNEDY ONASIS but he had a list of things I could choose from and the nicest one was STONE ISLAND. I already ordered one but it is such a pretty daylily with good budding and branching. My second choice would be SANTA'S LITTLE HELPER. I think?
Yesterday I got an email from Falcon Gardens and my order has been shipped. Hurray!

Susan, sounds like you have several new ones this year. I didn't order that many
this year. Next year I'll be looking for reds and purples.

Thumb of 2013-04-23/mistyfog/ef8d8c

These are the ones from Michele. Just look at those dark green gorgeous plants.
And she sent a bonus of an orange one, Kay Chapell. I needed orange ones this year,
so I am very very pleased with the plants and especially the choice of bonus.
I ordered Can't Touch This, Baja California, Ultimate Fantasy, Ivan Attitude, and
Jelly Maker, which I have had on my list for a long time. Hurray!

Hey, now I have some of Michele's "curly" daylilies. Green Grin!

Shirlee, they look fantastic. You got some great daylilies. That is what fans that grow all winter look like. I am getting ready to start shipping and there is no way my plants will be that big. They have just started growing, but will have good root systems. We all like receiving those big fans, but I really believe a plant with a good root system and not so much top growth will suffer less stress. I may be wrong, but this is just my observation. I still love getting those huge fans!!

Thanks Ann. Daylilies growing all winter in the deep south makes them look curly?
I looked for a long time for Jelly Maker, and couldn't find one, so glad to finally get it.

Of course, those big southern grown fans won't stay that way here. They go through the
winter, and come back TN size. They are a sight to see though.

I whole heartedly agree. The root system is the most important thing, or at least that has
been my experience. I've received some that had very large roots (diameter), but they were cut off
to about an inch, yet they did just fine and managed to bloom. Surprised me too.
One particular pencil-sized fan had equally tiny roots. It is not doing much at all.
I may never see that one bloom.

Floota, another option is to give the buyer the option of a gift plant instead of extra fans. Many new to daylily buyers are more interested in more plants versus more fans. I believe that is how we all started out. Right?
Susan you have a nice haul there.
